Casino nights are becoming popular features in UK pubs. They are not fully fledged casinos like the ones in Las Vegas, although publicans do seem to make a great effort to provide the glamour and glitz associated with ‘Sin City’.
For most of the casino nights, there is a theme. For the Tree Tuns in Doddington, it was to raise funds for the cancer charity Marie Curie.
The Friday evening event raised a whopping £4,558.10 for the cause. As one would expect at any self-respecting casino, there were chips to use to play roulette, blackjack, and poker.
The event was skilfully hosted by 4 Aces Fun Casino and included a raffle and auction. Those in the mood for dancing could attend the disco or simply enjoy the food provided by The Village Cakery.
Tina Leonard, landlady of The Three Tuns, said, “It was a fantastic night with £4558.10 raised from the casino tables, raffle, auction, roulette raffle, and donations and sponsorship from local businesses.
"Everyone was so supportive; with all auction prizes donated and the cost of the tables sponsored, we only had to buy the main prizes.
“4 Aces Fun Casino was professional and friendly; they totally made the evening full of fun. We had a local DJ who also gave up his evening to don his tuxedo and kept the times flowing."
Casinos.com asked Leonard if they would be having another casino night, to which she replied, "Those who attended had great fun, all for a fantastic charity and have already asked if we will do another Casino Night!
"Well, the answer is definitely yes; we are already looking at doing it again in collaboration with something more local. That's not to say we won't be raising more money for Marie Curie. This will definitely be on our agenda again in 2026!
"And a fun night at the casino will hopefully be back in 2025!”
Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
