Do I need to introduce Betfred? They’re one of those gambling industry goliaths that everyone’s heard of. Largely thanks to a physical presence, with thousands of Betfred bookies scattered across towns and cities in the UK. And like most of their big-name rivals, they buddy a hugely popular online sportsbook with a well-appointed online casino.
When a brand is this well known, you’d expect it to deliver one of the very best online casinos. After all, there’s clearly no lack of experience or resources at play. But not all big names give their casino the individual time and respect it deserves, sadly. Something I’ve seen again and again.
So what’s the story with Betfred? Is this a casino worthy of the brand, or another second fiddle to a mighty sportsbook? I went to find out. And I’m ready to report back in this frank and fair Betfred Casino review.

You shouldn’t commit to a casino just because it has good promos. But let’s face it, they help. And with their experience, Betfred surely know that bonuses are something players like us keep a keen eye out for.
Just to cover some of my general findings about bonuses at Betfred Casino:
I’ll run through some bonuses I spotted when I signed up. Remember these can change at any time, so I can’t promise these exact promos will be there when you join.
When I joined Betfred’s casino for the purpose of this review, I scooped up a spins offer. Betfred is a £5 minimum deposit casino, but I needed to stake £10 on slots to reap my reward. I had 30 days to get that done – hardly a challenge for me. And once I had, I unlocked free spins to play on selected slot games within a seven-day period. The clincher? No wagering requirements on anything I won from those spins, meaning I could cash out my winnings whenever I wanted. Consider me a satisfied customer.
Some casinos reel you in with a welcome package just to leave you high and dry after. From what I saw, that’s not the case with Betfred. They seem to do a stellar job at giving us players reason to come back.
To give you some idea what I mean, these were the ongoing promotions at the time of my review:
In other words, a whole load of no wagering free spins. And while these are far from a high roller casino bonus, they drop so often that they do feel rewarding.
You’ll need to opt in to get all of the above. That means opting in every day in the case of daily promotions.
Betfred didn’t seem to have your classic tiered scheme that you often find at VIP casinos online. But they do offer rewards for loyalty through things called Comp Points.
You build these up as you play. For example, you get 1 Comp Point for every £10 staked on slots or live games. Once you’ve amassed points you can trade them for cash, free spins, or Golden Chips. Possible trades include:
Is it the most enticing or generous loyalty rewards scheme I’ve ever seen? No. Not nearly. It’s still nice to have though, even if it’s not a crowd-puller for this particular site.
I can’t fault Betfred when it comes to getting winnings from your bonus. Pretty much all their promos – the welcome package and returning player bonuses – centre on free spins. And since the site doesn’t attach any wagering requirements to winnings on these, the cash is yours as and when you want it.
With a total number of games coming in around the 700 mark, Betfred Casino isn’t especially big. In fact, that’s a game library way smaller than most. That might seem odd for such a big brand, but don’t write Betfred off. This sometimes speaks for a focus on quality over quantity.
You’ll have already got this impression from the promos, but slots are the focus here. They make up well over half of all the titles available.
There’s no lack of slots at Betfred. They’re well varied too, with everything from classic fruit slots through to progressive jackpots, megaways, and more.
What is weird is that they don’t have a separate tab for slots. They’re sort of scattered here, there, and everywhere. I ended up having to use the ‘All Games’ tab to find what I was looking for, which felt unideal. That aside, I’d recommend:
I counted 22 table games. That’s nothing spectacular, but given some sites overlook classic RNG table titles these days, I’ll take it. To be fair, they are well varied. I spotted roulette, blackjack, solitaire, keno, hi lo, and stud poker. I did like that they had three Betfred branded games, too. I played and enjoyed:
I found a solid lineup of live titles at Betfred, just north of 40 by my count. It’s not the biggest selection but again, all bases are covered. Roulette and gameshows seemed in particularly strong supply. I was impressed with:
Lotto and bingo aren’t really my thing, but if they are yours, I reckon you’ll be super impressed with Betfred. There are separate tabs for lotto and bingo, and both look to be absolutely stacked with games. Lotto in particular is well sorted between draws, scratchcards, and instant wins.
I’d go as far as to say Betfred is pretty unique in its dedication to lotto and bingo. So credit where it’s due.
Call me easily pleased, but I love a branded title. Especially when it’s also one of the site’s best payout slots with a hefty RTP of 96.2%. This megaways game comes from 1x2 Gaming and offers an epic 117,649 ways to win.
Betfred offer a mobile app that’s available on both iOS and Android. I downloaded it to my iPhone 13 Pro and was happy with what I found, but not wowed.
My bugbear is that other big brands have split their casino off into its own platform, separate from the sportsbook. This allows for a more tailored experience, and means no football or horseracing odds crashing the party when I navigate through the app. Maybe you don’t mind that, but I’m very much a casinos guy.
That shouldn’t detract from the fact this is still a well-built app. Navigation is clear and well organised, pages appear slick, and games run like a dream.
There’s a healthy raft of software providers supplying the games at Betfred. If you’re regular at online casinos, you’ll know most of them well.
A good bulk of the games come from Playtech, but others include Big Time Gaming, ELK Studios, and Hacksaw.
The payment methods available at Betfred seemed to cover most bases. There are debit cards, pre-paid cards, and my personal preference of an e-wallet. A pretty glaring absence are the mobile payments systems, namely Apple Pay and Google Pay. Otherwise, you can use:
Whatever payment method you go for, deposits are instant and withdrawals are fast. The site’s terms say ‘usually within four hours’ for Visa and Mastercard withdrawals, and ‘usually within six hours’ for all other methods. But even that might be an overestimate. I got my withdrawal via PayPal in around an hour.
Signing up at Betfred is as straightforward as you’d expect.
Without sounding too dismissive, you can probably leave any safety fears at the door if you choose Betfred. These guys have been in the business since 1967. And while the online offering is obviously a newer development, they’re as rigorous about safety and adhering to regulation as always.
How can I be so sure? Well licensing is a good place to start. Betfred hold a licence with both the UK Gambling Commission and the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner. They’re clear that all games are tested for fairness, and your personal data is protected with SSL encryption from Verisign.
It’s not often I’m this uncritical about a site’s safety credentials. But being such a big player, there’s no way Betfred aren’t all over this. If I had one gripe, it’s that they aren’t clear which game testing agencies they work with. But I’ve no doubt the games are fair.
You may be asked to verify your identity. Or you may not. I’ll explain.
UK casinos are required by law to be certain their players are 18 or over. It’s called Know Your Customer – or KYC.
Depending on the payment method you use, the casino may be able to verify your identity through it, with no action needed from you. They do this via third party agencies like Experian. And no, it won’t ever show up on your credit report if they do. Don’t worry.
If they can’t, you’ll need to verify your identity manually. And that’s when you’ll find yourself asked. You now won’t be able to deposit, withdraw, or play at Betfred until this is complete. Thankfully, the process is pretty easy and involves sharing copies of a couple of documents at most.
The documents you submit will need to show your identity, your date of birth, and your address. You could provide one or a combination of the following:
Here’s one of the best tips I can give you. Judge a site by how seriously it takes responsible gambling. In particular, how easy (or hard) the various resources and tools are to access.
And that’s not just because it’s the right thing to offer us players. A casino that’s serious about responsible gambling is one that understands its obligations. It’s something, you might say, of a green flag.
I’m pleased to tell you Betfred do well here. Check the footer to find their Safer Gambling page. The site sets out its approach to responsible gambling across a few tabs. There’s then a tab that takes you straight though to the tools, which include deposit limits, time out, reality check, and self-exclusion. Each can be applied at a suitable range of intervals, from 24-hour deposit limits through to exclusions of up to five years. The final tab points you to external organisations that offer further support.
Bit of a side note, but while you’re at the footer, their Rules & Limits hub is also worth a look. There’s loads of transparent info around bonus terms, site rules, game RTPs, and the like. It’s another green flag that Betfred make this so easy to find.
Customer support really matters. I’ve seen otherwise superb sites fall apart by making it too hard to get help when something’s up.
Betfred are a big name (I mentioned that, didn’t I?), so I came expecting excellence. It’s hardly like their support team would ever be sat twiddling their thumbs. Thankfully, my bar was met.
Your first port of call will be the usual FAQs area. It’s sorted into sensible categories and each of the answers are suitably detailed. I’m sometimes dismissive of FAQ-type support. I’ve seen sites use it as cover and cop-out from having a proper support team in place. But credit where it’s due, Betfred’s is genuinely useful and thorough.
Failing that, there’s 24/7 live chat support. Now I did get put through to a chatbot initially, but in fairness, this particular chatbot was just about bearable. And I was soon put through to a real person when it became clear the bot couldn’t solve my issue alone. So thumbs up here.
I didn’t test email support, but it is there, and they promise to respond within 12 hours. Most sites say they’ll get back in a day or two. So again, impressive stuff from Betfred.
It’s tempting to look at the number of games and say Betfred’s casino is second fiddle to its sports betting. But having played at the site, I’d say that’s unfair.
First of all, the games that are there meet the mark for quality. The site is partnered with some of the best developers in the business.
Those retuning player promos are another surefire sign that Betfred take their casino seriously. This site throws free spins at you by the bucketload, and they help keep play fresh and exciting. Customer support also counts for a lot, and Betfred do well here. Withdrawal speeds are impressive, too.
What would I fault? Maybe the bonuses could be a little more varied, rather than centring on slots and spins. I’d love to see live casino bonuses, for example. And the game library could (and should?) be bigger, without compromising on quality. Still, Betfred did enough to win me over.
No wagering on free spins winnings. Coming from a brand who don’t exactly need to grow name recognition or break into the market, it feels generous.
The minimum deposit for most payment methods at Betfred Casino is £5, except for bank transfers at £85, and £10 in physical Betfred locations. That means you can deposit as little as a fiver across a range of methods including debit cards, e-wallets, and pre-paid cards.
That depends on the payment method, but Betfred’s payout speeds are some of the fastest around regardless. The site says you can expect withdrawals to Mastercard and Visa cards to take up to four hours. That rises a little to six hours for all other methods. They do warn your wait could be up to 12 hours at busy periods.
Yes, absolutely. Betfred have been in the business since 1967. They’re fully licensed in the UK and Gibraltar, and all the games are tested for fairness by third party agencies. They use SSL encryption verified by Verisign when handling your data, and adhere to GDPR as they’re legally required to.
Officially, there isn’t one. But you will find a limit of no less than £5 when you try withdrawing the usual way. If you’d like to withdraw a smaller amount, you need to contact the Betfred customer support team and make the request. I recommend using the live chat as you’ll get a response right away.
The best way to get in touch is via the live chat function, which is easy to access from your account. You’ll get a response right away. Failing that, you can email the support team at support@betfred.com. The site says you’ll get a response within 12 hours.
