Cardiff Couple in Shock After £1 Million Win on National Lottery

Sarah Williams found it hard to believe her husband Dave when he called her to let her know that they had won a massive bonus £1m on the Euro Millions Lottery on Tuesday, May 21st.

Sarah’s exact words to Dave were, “Stop talking rubbish.”

It was far from rubbish that Dave was talking, and he had the proof of the winning ticket in his hand. He had already confirmed the win but that too was a bit of a rollercoaster ride for Dave, along with his recent history of medical problems.

Placed on Hold When Trying to Confirm Win

The story took a twist when Dave checked the lottery numbers on his app while at work.

Dave originally thought he had won £100,000 when he called the National Lottery help line. Dave said that he felt a bit of disappointment when the call handler placed him on hold.

Dave briefly thought that he might have made a mistake and that the prize would be £10. There was no error other than that Dave had not won £100,000 but £1million.

Couple Plans to Find Dream Home and Travel

Dave, a mechanic from Cardiff in South Wales, had not been having much luck lately as he had been suffering with throat cancer. Sarah, his wife, has also had health problems.

Dave said that he had been diagnosed with throat cancer some years ago, which meant some extensive and aggressive treatment, culminating in losing half his jaw and having to undergo reconstructive surgery.

If that were bad enough, just as Dave was beginning to recover, Sarah was treated for health problems including spondylitis, an inflammation of the spine that is affecting her freedom of movement and putting her in almost constant pain.

Despite having it tough, the couple from Wales said that they are not going to waste any time and will begin to enjoy life.

That should be a lot easier now that the pair are National Lottery millionaires.

The couple are now looking for their dream home and they plan to explore Wales and the rest of the UK in their campervan. The couple also plan to travel abroad if Sarah can overcome her fear of flying.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
