"It’s Thursday, March 20th. This is your Casinos.com news roundup.

"Four members of Table Tennis England have been suspended from the sport following a complex international investigation into match-fixing and unusual betting activity in the sport.

"Luke Savill, Darius Knight, Joseph Langham-Ferreira, and Kazeem Adeleke appeared before the disciplinary committee for breaches of the TTE's anti-corruption regulations relating to betting on table tennis matches.

"It follows close on the heels of another match-fixing story. Darts player Prakash Jiwa has been banned from all Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) events for eight years after being found guilty of match-fixing and betting on darts.

"Following a hearing before the DRA Disciplinary Committee on 21 January, Jiwa was found guilty of fixing four matches and betting on darts. He was found not guilty of obstructing the enquiry.  Jiwa was suspended until 2031, providing he pays costs of £17,741.46.

"The Information Commissioner’s Office has set out a raft of new measures that support the government’s growth agenda.

"Information Commissioner John Edwards met with Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves to agree on the commitments of the data protection regulator.

"Speaking after the meeting, Edwards said, “Personal data powers our economy, from retail to hospitality, online casinos, and healthcare. Unlocking the potential of this data is key to encouraging economic growth and investment—as long as the public can trust that it will be appropriately protected.

"Corbett Bookmakers Limited has been fined £686,070 after a Gambling Commission investigation revealed social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings.

"Corbett Bookmakers Limited—which operates 36 premises—will also undergo a third-party audit to ensure it is effectively implementing its AML and safer gambling policies, procedures, and controls.

"The failures were revealed during a two-day Gambling Commission compliance assessment.

"And finally, Whitby in North Yorkshire is best known for its association with Count Dracula or, rather, the author of the book Bram Stoker. Now the town is battling with Luxury Leisure Limited, who want to open a casino at a former bank.

"The company hopes to invest £500,000 and create 12 jobs but locals have opposed the plans, saying they do not want to be known as NorthVegas. Luxury Leisure has 12 days to appeal the refusal of the plans by Whitby Council.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
