All poker games are based on the same basic principles. That said, numerous variants put their own unique twist on poker. Everyone has a favorite poker game, which is why it is essential to know all the variants you can play at online casinos:
Online Poker Tournaments
Pit yourself against a vast pool of other players in a tournament format. Some tournaments are free to enter, but most require an entry fee. This buy-in is the same for all players, and all participants receive the same number of chips to play with. Common tourneys include bounty, rebuy, satellite, freeroll, and freezeout.
Online Poker Cash Games
A cash game in online casino poker is any game where real money is at stake. This means you buy into a game with your bankroll following a deposit at an online casino. Most cash games do not have a time limit, so you can leave/enter the game whenever you want.
Texas Hold’em
Even non-poker players know about Texas Hold’em because this variant is played at major televised tournaments. In this game, all players receive two face-down cards. A betting round follows before the dealer turns three community cards (the flop) onto the table. Another betting round happens before another two individual community cards and betting rounds.
Omaha
Omaha borrows plenty from Hold’em, including the three-card flop of community cards and two following cards. However, in this game, the player is dealt four cards and must choose only two of these cards to play with.
Stud Games
Stud poker gives players all cards at once, with two cards visible to all players and three only visible to the player. With these cards, players must make the best hand. Popular stud poker variants include seven-card stud and Caribbean Stud. The latter option is one of the few poker variants where you play against the casino/house.
3-card
3-card poker involves competing directly against the dealer instead of other players. Because players only have three cards, hand rankings differ slightly. Most notably, there is no two-part possible or four-of-a-kind. In 3-card poker, a Straight is better than a Flush.
5-card
As a straightforward poker game for beginners, 5-card poker involves all players receiving 5 cards which they must use to build the best winning combination. While the gameplay is mostly the same as other poker variants, there are 5-card games that allow players to swap two cards to try to get a better hand.
Razz
Razz is not common but experienced players like it because it adds something fresh to a seven-card stud. Specifically, this is a low-only poker game. In Razz, you can only win a round with cards from Ace to Five. Any card with a value of over five cannot win. While players receive seven cards, they only need five to form a winning hand based on standard poker rankings.
Badugi
Badugi is something of an unknown variant, especially among beginners. This game involves just four cards and is a low-value game. Badugi is not very common at casino sites, but you will find some reputable gambling operators that stock it.
