The Gambling Commission has launched a brand-new podcast. In a LinkedIn post, the GC announced, "Today, we've launched our brand-new podcast, Inside the Commission."

The first part of the first episode is a talk with Andrew Rhodes about the GC’s objective to ensure gambling is fair and open in Great Britain. Rhodes is no stranger to operators in online and land-based casinos and the gambling industry.

Posting on his LinkedIn page, Mr Rhodes said: “Not sure how I feel reposting this. Like most people, I don't enjoy watching or hearing myself, but we are trying out having a podcast to be able to discuss some topics in longer form and I've done the first one.

“This one is about the 'Fair and Open' licensing objective, but there are others in the works (thankfully not involving me) on other topics. The present episode is obviously a special interest podcast, but we hope it gives a bit more insight into our work and approach to our remit.”

We asked the Gambling Commission a few questions about the brand-new product for consumers and topics and themes that the show will cover. Will it focus solely on the gambling industry, or will it also explore related areas of interest?

The Gambling Commission said: “Topics and themes will be related to our licensing objectives and work as a regulator.”

We asked if there would be guests from the gambling industry featured on the show; if so, could they provide examples of the types of guests we might expect?

Responding, the GC said, “For now, the podcast will host staff from the gambling commission talking about their work, but there may be scope to include external guests in the future.”

Keeping up with industry news via Gambling Commission’s new podcast could become a valuable resource for staying informed. We asked about audience engagement and whether listeners would have opportunities to submit questions, participate in polls, or engage in surveys related to the podcast topics.

The proposal was something the Gambling Commission said they were looking at. They said, “We may look to include these opportunities for audiences to get involved in the future.”

When asked about hosts and presenters, the GC said that the podcast is being delivered by the communications team and will be hosted by a member of the communications team. We wanted to know which platforms the podcast would be available on for streaming and if it would be accessible on popular podcast platforms and social media.

The GC responded by saying that the podcast will be available on Apple, Spotify and YouTube.

Casinos.com asked the GC what motivated the commission to launch a podcast at this time and how it fits into the commission's overall communication strategy. The GC said: “Podcasts are a popular form of media that can reach a wide audience. As part of our role to communicate the work of the commission, the podcast will offer a longer-form media platform to discuss issues related to gambling regulation.”

Our final question was what the goals and objectives were and what the commission hoped to achieve through the podcast.

The GC responded by saying that they hope to give consumers and industry professionals alike further insight into the work of the commission, delivered in an informal yet informative way.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
