An attack on a woman by a nursery manager at a Dundee casino has resulted in the assailant receiving a fine and social work supervision with alcohol counselling.
The vicious attack in which a woman was glassed was carried out by 43-year-old children’s nursery manager Danielle Lee.
The assault took place at Grosvenor Casino in Dundee following an altercation between Lee and two other women.
The court heard that Lee had attacked one woman and ‘glassed’ her following an altercation, which involved ‘ageist’ comments made towards Lee.
Dundee Sheriff Court was shown CCTV footage from the city's Grosvenor Casino of Danielle Lee assaulting the two younger women.
The court heard that there had been an exchange of words between the women involved in the incident who came to be seated at the same table.
CCTV footage showed Lee hurling the contents of a glass at one woman before hitting her with the same glass. Lee can then be seen pursuing another woman through the casino, with casino staff trying to control her.
The assaults took place on November 20th, 2022. One woman received injuries as a result of the glassing.
Sheriff Mungo Bovey addressed the court, saying, “The trouble with alcohol is that it makes people behave out of character.”
Sheriff Bovey continued, “You are mature for a first appearance in court—the insulting comments did focus on her age.”
Lee, who was representing herself, said, “It’s highly regrettable. I’m not trying to play it down. What happened on that evening was out of character. It’s given me a fright.
“This case has gone on a long time and taken a toll on my mental health. I want to get back to full-time work. I run the nursery, so I deal with children. I’ve managed it for ten years.”
Lee was fined £450 and placed under social work supervision for six months, with a condition she gets alcohol counselling.
Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
