Edinburgh Casino Player Banks Life-Changing Poker Jackpot

A casino aficionado in Scotland says he hasn’t ‘stopped smiling’ since walking away with an unexpected cash prize of almost $148,000 thanks to a lucky game of three-card poker.

The player, who wishes to remain anonymous, was enjoying some time at the Grosvenor Casino Edinburgh earlier this month when he decided to try his luck at the casino table game where competitors go up against a dealer across several betting rounds. 

The Edinburgh Evening News reports the devotee was subsequently left speechless after being told he had won a progressive jackpot worth a cool £118,387 ($147,930). 

Striking Structure

Located along Maybury Road on the western outskirts of Scotland’s second largest city, Grosvenor Casino Edinburgh features 20 slot machines offering jackpots of up to £4,000 ($5,000) alongside 29 electronic roulette terminals and 13 gaming tables with American roulette, blackjack and three-card poker entertainment. 

The art deco facility run by the Grosvenor Casinos Limited subsidiary of multinational gambling giant Rank Group also has a restaurant and hosts private poker tournaments six days a week.

Unexpected Windfall

The mystery player told the newspaper he never anticipated taking home such a large cash prize and now envisions his life changing for the better thanks to his new-found wealth.

“You always hear stories about other people winning and never think it’s going to happen to you, but it did,” said the unidentified winner. 

“Initially, I hadn’t realized that I’d won and the dealer had to let me know. I’m over the moon about winning and I haven’t stopped smiling since.”

Declared Delight

The General Manager for Grosvenor Casino Edinburgh, Andrew Miller, congratulated his property’s latest winner before revealing the prize was paid out immediately after the player had produced a royal flush of spades to trigger the progressive jackpot.

“The atmosphere in the casino was electric and it’s great to see Grosvenor Casinos help create a jackpot winning moment that our player will never forget,” Miller said.
