Glasgow Adult Gaming Center Appealing for Around-the-Clock Operation

The operator behind an adult gaming center in Glasgow has officially appealed against an earlier decision that kept the enterprise from opening around the clock.

Luxury Leisure is responsible for more than 270 Admiral Casino-branded adult gaming centers across the United Kingdom, including 14 in Scotland. These venues offer aficionados over the age of 18 the chance to enjoy games of electronic roulette as well as a selection of slots with cash prizes of up to £500 ($640).

Distinct Discrepancy

A subsidiary of Austrian gambling behemoth Novomatic AG, Luxury Leisure debuted its Admiral Casino-branded site along Glasgow’s central Sauchiehall Street in June of 2021 although the facility is not allowed to open between midnight and 8 am.

Glasgow City Council added this restriction to ‘protect local residents from exposure to noise and disturbance’ despite going on to approve the operator’s nearby Queen Street branch for around-the-clock operation.

Glasgow Live reports this incongruity prompted Luxury Leisure to apply for permission to keep its Sauchiehall Street branch open day and night. However, city officials ruled against this petition in November by declaring such a move would likely be ‘detrimental’ to residents owing to ‘increased footfall and noise at unsocial hours’. 

Permission Plea

Undaunted by this rejection, Luxury Leisure has now filed an appeal before Glasgow City Council’s planning review committee, arguing its Sauchiehall Street branch should be allowed to open around the clock. 

The operator’s petition states its Queen Street enterprise runs ‘on a 24-hour basis without noise complaint’ and that adult gaming centers ‘do not generate adverse impacts through 24/7 trading’.

The latest request from Luxury Leisure moreover asserts its Sauchiehall Street and Queen Street branches have never been cited for complaints related to excess noise or anti-social behavior. The action furthermore declares the noise assessment attached to its original application was prepared ‘n anticipation that the proposed gaming center would operate 24 hours a day’.

“It concluded that the amount of noise generated by typical Admiral Casino adult gaming centers is modest,” the application from Luxury Leisure reads. 

“The area is commercial in character and there are no apartments within the building nor in the immediate vicinity of the site. Overall, the assessment concluded that there would be no significant noise impact from the proposed development.”

Even Evaluation 

The petition from Luxury Leisure calls on councillors to judge its Sauchiehall Street business by the same standards used to assess its older Queen Street venue. The appeal, which could be decided as soon as tomorrow, additionally describes any excessive noise and anti-social behavior concerns Glasgow City Council may hold as ‘unfounded’ owing to ‘the successful and incident-free operation’ of both sites.

“Attendees are generally individuals rather than noisy groups due to the fact the premises offer low-stakes gaming and do not serve alcohol.”
