What do you do when you want to focus on core gaming operations? You sell a Bingo Club, of course.
Merkur Casino is doing just that as it moves towards an operational refinement strategy to focus on its core business operations, which are slots and casino gaming.
The bingo club in question is in Lowestoft, and a statement on their website simply says, "As we prepare to hand over the Lowestoft venue to your new owners, Real Fun Group, we need to cancel our morning and afternoon sessions this Monday, March 24.
“However, they will be open as usual for the evening session! The new owners look forward to seeing you! Real Fun Group tell us they have lots of wonderful and exciting things lined up, but we’ll let you find that out for yourself over the coming months.”
Completely rebuilt in July 2000, Merkur Bingo Lowestoft has developed a high reputation throughout East Anglia, with people travelling to the club from all over the country.
The club boasts 623 comfortable seatings on both floors with two bars and a great “diner” offering mouth-watering food at value-for-money prices. The club is fully air-conditioned and even has an attractive outside balcony smoking area overlooking the harbour.
The lucky buyers are the Real Fun Group, who hope the acquisition supports Real Fun Group’s expansion plans in the bingo sector. Despite some closures of older bingo halls, some buildings are being repurposed and bingo is appealing to a new generation of players in land-based and online bingo sites.
Chief Operating Officer of Merkur Casino, Mark Schertle, said: "We are excited to complete this sale with Real Fun Group. As we continue to evolve and grow in the gaming industry, it's essential for us to focus on our core strengths.
“The sale of the Merkur Bingo Club in Lowestoft allows us to sharpen our focus on our core slots and casino businesses while ensuring the future success of our teams and an enhanced bingo experience for our customers under the new leadership.”
Founder of Real Fun Group, Kevin McGinnigle, said that the group had ambitions to further grow their estate through strategic acquisitions in the years to come.
He said: “Whilst it might have arrived a little earlier than expected, we believe Lowestoft is precisely what we’re looking for, and we look forward to welcoming the bingo hall into the Real Fun Group.
“I’d like to thank the Merkur team for their cooperation during the process; they’ve been swift, transparent, and a pleasure to deal with.”
Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
