Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has many strings to her bow, including being an author, a TV personality, and a philanthropist. But she could be adding another string in the coming months if one of her latest visits is anything to go by.
The royal recently headed north to the Coronation Street set in Media City, Salford Quays, after touring the Prevent Breast Cancer charity headquarters in nearby Wythenshawe, Manchester.
The Duchess, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and underwent a mastectomy, is known to be a patron of the Prevent Breast Cancer charity, as is Corrie icon Sally Dynevor, after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. But Sarah, who is affectionately known as Fergie, could soon be spending more time with Sally after she enquired about a potential Cobbles cameo during her visit.
Manchester is used to having one Fergie, in the shape of ex-Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, but another could be hitting the fictional town of Weatherfield soon. After a day being shown around the Corrie set by Sally, the Duchess appeared on the ITV brunchtime show This Morning and excitedly announced, "I think I've persuaded the director to give me a cameo part."

While This Morning host Ben Shephard mocked her pretend pint pulling in Corrie's Rovers Return pub, Sarah turned her attention to her northern accent. She said, “I'm going to practice my pint-pulling, and I'm going to have hotpot.
"And, apparently, what else I have to do is speak Northern. I'm very sorry to all Northerners watching, but I have to say, 'Mug.' "
Royal cameos in soaps are nothing new. King Charles has previously appeared in Corrie, and he and his wife, Camilla, made a surprise appearance in EastEnders in 2022 as part of his mother's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Sarah is 8/11 to make a Corrie cameo, and just 11/8 for another TV role—appearing on children's TV reading a CBeebies Bedtime Story.

The Duchess of Edinburgh recently did just that, and Fergie has plenty of experience thanks to her YouTube channel, Storytime with Fergie and Friends, on which she and other authors read stories to kids during the coronavirus pandemic lockdowns. The Duchess has also penned several children's books, the latest being Flora and Fern: Wonder in the Woods.
If a soap cameo doesn't come to fruition, then Sarah could still appear on the small screen on a regular basis—on This Morning. In November 2023, she made her debut on the show as a guest, ‘agony aunt,’ during which she gave some saucy relationship advice.
Speaking to one caller about how she can take her husband for a ‘great surprise,’ she said, "You pop down and get a lovely saucy underwear department in your chest of drawers and you really make the hair, you know, blow dry the hair and take him out on a treat. It needs to be more treats that he’s lost for words."
She finished the call by advising the caller to "get that sexy underwear out" and praising her for "being so brave to ring us."
Duchess of York engaged viewers with her TV presence during appearance on This Morning.
During her recent appearance on This Morning to promote her latest book and speak about her potential Corrie cameo, Sarah was thrust back into the agony aunt role once again. It's just 3/1 she lands a permanent job on the show, and 4/1 she uses her recent TV experience and starts an agony aunt-style podcast.
Several members of the Royal Family have been rumoured to appear on Strictly Come Dancing over the years, with Queen Camilla, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, and Zara Tindall all said to be fans of the show. While she's not a full-time royal anymore, Fergie is just 5/1 to appear on next year's series of the BBC Latin and ballroom show, and she is a massive 20/1 to take part in Channel 4's brutal series Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.
Former This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield recently tried to get his career back on track by being marooned on a desert island for 10 days in the Channel 5 show Cast Away.
It's 8/1 Fergie makes a foray to a tropical island anytime soon, but it looks less likely (10/1) that she becomes a full-time Royal again in the near future.
Despite appearing at several Royal Family events recently—including attending a church service on Easter Sunday alongside a small number of royals, and she was at a memorial service for the former King Constantine of Greece—Sarah, the ex-wife of Prince Andrew, isn't expected to walk back into The Firm full-time anytime soon.
Last month, Royal writer Craig Brown told Sky News Australia: "She's not the King's kind of person." But she could be the Corrie director's sort of person and heading to a TV screen near you soon.
