Three people were arrested today, Monday, Jan. 27. The arrests were in relation to allegations of match-fixing in a boxing fight.

A 54-year-old woman, a 33-year-old man, and a 23-year-old man were arrested in Birmingham as part of an investigation led by the Gambling Commission and supported by West Midlands Police.

The 54-year-old and the 33-year-old were arrested in Kings Norton, while the 23-year-old was arrested in Longbridge.

All three are alleged to have committed the offences under section 42 of the Gambling Act 2005. The investigation was launched following reports of suspicious betting activity linked to a boxing match held last year.

Andrew Rhodes commented in front of the Commission, "In an age where the norm is constant commentary and immediate updates, regulators sometimes find themselves in an awkward position in being unable to offer a running commentary or share all the details all of the time.

"However, work is always going on behind the scenes and when updates can appropriately be given, they are, as seen today with the announcement of three arrests in connection with possible Section 42 cheat offences."

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
