Atlantic City Land Based Casino Operators

Atlantic City is often referred to as the "Gambling Capital of the East Coast" due to its many casinos. In the late 1970s, New Jersey legalized gambling in Atlantic City, leading to the construction of several casino resorts.

The years have seen many of them come and go, while others have had facelifts and rebrands to move with the times. There are some huge operators in the area though, as you'd expect. They include:

  • Caesars Entertainment: When you're talking about Caesars Entertainment you're talking about arguably the most prestigeous casino brand in the world. They operate three casino resorts in Atlantic City: Caesars, Harrah's, and Tropicana.
  • MGM: Las Vegas has an enormous MGM presence, but they only operate one casino in Atlantic City. That casino is Borgata, though, which is absolutely spectacular.
  • Bally's: In 2024, Bally's closed down the iconic Tropicana on the Las Vegas Strip, but it's still a big player and its property on the AC boardwalk is one of the best.

Atlantic City Casino Resorts

There is no shortage of choice when it comes to casino resorts in Atlantic City. Here are some of the most notable.

  • Caesars Atlantic City - Taking pride of place on the famous Atlantic City boardwalk, Caesars is perhaps not as imposing as its Las Vegas counterpart although it is just as much fun.
  • Bally's Atlantic City - Bally's is a big name in gambling. Its Las Vegas property has just been rebranded to Horseshoe, but Bally's Atlantic City is still going strong and a must-visit for gamblers - even if it is just to soak up the history alone.
  • Tropicana - Another baordwalk property and another with a storied history. You'll also find a 126k square foot casino here across two floors.
  • Resorts - The oldest casino hotel in Atlantic City and the one that offers the best old-school gambling experience.

More Than Gambling

While Atlantic City is well-known for gambling, there is far more than casinos to keep you busy. Here are  just some of the other reasons to visit AC in 2024.

  • Beach Gambling Holidays: AC is often referred to as the "Gambling Capital of the East Coast," but perhaps what makes it unique is the beachfront location. The famous Boardwalk stretches along the beachfront for about four miles. It's known for its lively atmosphere, with shops, restaurants, amusement parks, and entertainment venues. Visitors can enjoy swimming, sunbathing, surfing, and other beach activities during the warmer months.
  • Entertainment: Atlantic City offers various entertainment options, including live shows, concerts, comedy clubs, and nightlife venues. Many famous performers have graced the stages of Atlantic City's theaters and concert halls.
  • Culinary Delights: The city's dining scene offers a diverse array of cuisines, ranging from seafood and steakhouses. There are plenty of choices when it comes to international food too.
  • Cultural Immersions: When you visit Atlantic City, you can't help but feel immersed in its history. It was originally a resort town in the 19th century and gained prominence as a premier vacation destination, particularly after the completion of the Atlantic City Boardwalk in 1870, which was the first boardwalk in the United States.

Important Considerations

If you're going to Atlantic City to gamble, be aware that you need to be 21 or over to legally gamble in New Jersey. In fact, at some resorts, such as Borgata, you have to be 21 or over just to reserve a room. You will be ID'd too.

There are other attractions though, such as the Absecon Lighthouse, the Steel Pier amusement park, and the Atlantic City Aquarium.
