Grosvenor Casino Birmingham Broad Street Review for 2024

Going into this I knew that Birmingham was a hotspot in the UK for casinos, so I couldn’t wait to see what the Grosvenor Casino on Broad Street had to offer.

I also knew that this wasn’t the only Grosvenor Casino in Birmingham and with plans to visit its counterpart on Hill Street during my trip to the West Midlands, I was looking forward to comparing the two.

My review of Grosvenor Casino Birmingham Broad Street will shed light on everything you need to know, from where it is and how to get there to what games they have and the selection of food and drink on offer.

♦️ An Overview of Grosvenor Casino Birmingham Broad Street

Whether you’re local to the area or not, you’ve most probably heard of Birmingham’s Broad Street being referred to as the ‘Golden Mile’ on account of it being the city’s most dynamic entertainment offering. On this street you’ll find an array of popular bars and nightclubs such as O’Neill’s, Walkabout, Rosie’s Bar, and Wetherspoons. The casino itself, though, is located in the Fiveways Entertainment Centre.

So, already, I knew going in that this was probably a casino more tailored towards the party animals amongst us. With this in mind, I chose to visit on a Thursday evening – a happy medium between when I assume (and which was confirmed by the staff during my visit) things can get very lively on the weekend and the quieter times at the beginning of the week. I think this was a wise choice as there was enough atmosphere in there without it being too much.

The décor was standard, not too dated, not too modern. Nothing jumped out at me in this respect. Nothing apart from the harsh artificial lighting, anyway, but I’ll touch more upon that later.

The casino floor in this casino in particular has a great feel to it. After taking the stairs or the lift down to the basement level, you’ll see that the floor is sectioned off into two different areas.

Directly at the bottom of the stairs you’ll find the slots area which offers a selection of some of the most popular titles, including the likes of Cleopatra and Book of Ra. This area was quite busy during my tea-time visit so I opted to stay clear of chancing my luck on the reels, but the atmosphere was fantastic and all the machines looked to be in good working order.

Now, considering the venue is mid-sized, I was pleasantly surprised to find a total of 14 live table games sunken into the floor on the right-hand side of the room – which gave it quite the luxurious feel by the way. Roulette, Blackjack and Three Card Poker is what’s on offer, and I noticed that pretty much all the tables were being manned during my visit.

For anybody seeking a night of cards, this Grosvenor casino is home to a four-table poker room which is able to seat over 60 players at any one time. Once again, the atmosphere was great in there which is why I ended up sitting in for a few hands. I had a little natter with some fellow punters and went on my way after around half an hour but I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent there.

Another thing to point out is that Grosvenor Casino Birmingham Broad Street offers private poker parties. This includes a host for you and your party, food, drinks, and of course, plenty of poker. I thought this was a great touch and would be great for special occasions such as birthdays.

🛏️ Accommodation at Grosvenor Casino Birmingham Broad Street

With such a central location, the absence of an on-site hotel was of little inconvenience.

If you’re on a budget, you can take your pick from a Premier Inn or Travelodge which are both right across the street. Or, if you feel like splashing out, the Hampton by Hilton is just a few steps away.

🛎️ Services and Facilities at Grosvenor Casino Birmingham Broad Street

It came as no surprise that this popular venue is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The same goes for the table opening hours, so you really can visit any time you like. I’ve always thought that every city deserves a casino that’s open 24/7; especially these days, what with everyone’s busy schedules.

One of the first things I like to scope out when it comes to 24-hour casinos is the cleanliness. After all, it’s something that can only be described as a never-ending mission to keep an entertainment venue that never shuts its doors clean. Overall, I was pretty impressed.

A couple of empty glasses here, a few chairs untucked there, but I felt that the tables, machines, floor, and, perhaps most importantly, the toilets were kept on top of by the staff so no complaints there.

Food and Drink: Located at the back of the casino floor is the restaurant and bar area. Seeing as it was dinner time around the time that I arrived I thought I’d treat myself to a sit-down meal before getting stuck in on the tables.

With them serving all your old favourites such as steaks, burgers, fish, and an array of tempting desserts, I couldn’t fault the selection on offer. But would it deliver?

I felt like a treat, so I opted for a steak and boy I am I glad that I did. The presentation was immaculate and it was cooked to perfection, so top marks from me there. Oh, and there’s a different offer every single day at the restaurant which I thought was smart.

As I was driving, I was forced to go with a soft drink to wash it down, but I took the liberty of checking out the drinks menu anyway: cocktails, beer, cider, wine, champagne – take your pick.

Entertainment: There are multiple screens spread out across the casino, as well as a 10-foot-wide drop-down projector screen which show all the major sporting events such as football, UFC, and boxing.

Because of this, I was told that the place draws in crowds only interested in milling around the bar area and watching their sport of interest on the screens. Whether this is off-putting comes down to personal preference really but, personally, I don’t mind it.

I was also told that the venue can be frequented by live bands, comedy shows and the like on the weekend – something to keep them relevant on the main party strip in Birmingham no doubt.

Smoking: It’ll come as no surprise that smoking is not permitted anywhere within the building but there is a terrace available to punters specifically for that purpose.

Dress Code: As is the case with the majority of Grosvenor Casino’s, the dress code in place is a standard ‘smart/casual’. No need to get dolled up to the nines but just make sure to stay clear of hoodies, loungewear, caps and the like and you’ll be fine.

Perhaps the thing that stands out the most about this place is the atmosphere. I couldn’t quite put my finger on whether the crowds had more of a tourist or local feel but to be honest, but it didn’t matter. Everyone was having a great time.

👨‍🦽 Accessibility at Grosvenor Casino Birmingham Broad Street

I’m pleased to report that this casino fully caters to wheelchair users. There’s a lift to take you to the casino floor from the reception, ramps so that you can navigate the different levels, dedicated disabled toilets, and ample room to move around.

💰 Bonuses and Promotions at Grosvenor Casino Birmingham Broad Street

You may be luckier in obtaining a promotion in a land-based casino during national holidays, and you'll almost certainly have more chance at the best online casinos. Certainly, when I visited there was nothing of major interest here. I'd be surprised if that was the norm, though.

However, it’s worth taking note of the benefits of the Grosvenor membership. Now, you don’t need to be a member to enter and play at any Grosvenor Casino, but I’d probably recommend it if you think you’ll be vising more than once as it allows you to accumulate rewards points at any of their casinos throughout the whole of the UK or even online. Plus, it comes with other little perks such as being fast tracked into the casino.

If this is of interest, simply ask at the reception desk to become a member and then go ahead and upgrade your membership on the Grosvenor website.

🎇 My Experience at Grosvenor Casino Birmingham Broad Street

I’m not afraid to admit that I had pretty high expectations as I headed to Grosvenor Casino Birmingham Broad Street. This can partially be blamed on the good things I’d heard via word of mouth but, ultimately, I guess I’m just partial to a Birmingham casino.

The good news though is that I wasn’t disappointed. Perhaps the thing that stands out the most about this place is the atmosphere. I couldn’t quite put my finger on whether the crowds had more of a tourist or local feel but to be honest, but it didn’t matter. Everyone was having a great time, though I imagine it has the potential to get a little rowdy on the weekend.

I was impressed by the number of available tables to sit at and thought the different levels added a touch of style to the casino floor.

Ultimately, after spending a couple of hours there I was confident that I’d return when I find myself in Birmingham again.

⭐ Standout Moment

The slots area is what stood out for me the most during my visit to this casino. Due to it being at the bottom of the stairs as soon as you come in, I noticed that it drew in a steady crowd and there were often people just milling about having a bit of fun before heading on over to the tables.

It had a great vibe to it and would be great to experience with a few mates and a beer in hand.

💭 My Verdict on Grosvenor Casino Birmingham Broad Street

As mentioned, this casino is located on Birmingham’s famous Broad Street so it can perhaps be filed under one of the more ‘lively’ venues in the Grosvenor chain. I thought this was great though, especially if you’re planning a big night out and want to incorporate this casino into your plans.

There was more than enough going on to keep you from getting restless, what with all of the table games, poker offerings, slot machines, and bar area so, ultimately, it offered everything you could want.

🧭 How to get there

Possibly the best thing about casinos being located in entertainment complex’s is the fact they almost always provide free parking as a result. Sure enough, there’s a multi-storey car park on-site along with two open-air ones which can be used for free by all visitors and I was driving, this came in extremely handy. As you’ve probably guessed already, the casino is located on Broad Street and can be reached by popping B15 1AY into your sat nav. Note that the rear entrance to the casino is located within the multi-storey car park.

Being in a popular part of town, there is a bus stop directly outside the casino which supports local services 9 Platinum, 10, 12, 12A, 13, 13A, 23 Platinum, 24 Platinum, 126, 822, 829, X8 Platinum and X10 platinum. For travel on a more national level, Birmingham Coach Station is just over 10 minutes away by car – or a 30-minute walk if you feel like stretching your legs.

Or if the train is more your style, Birmingham New Street Station (Birmingham’s largest railway station) is just 8 minutes away by car or 20 minutes away on foot.
