Planet Hollywood is a Caesars owned property situated in the centre of the Las Vegas Strip. It has undergone several developments since its initial inception as the Aladdin Hotel but has remained ever popular.

The ideal location of the resort certainly helps, and its price point too, being much more affordable than many of its neighbours. But it also has some great features, unique branding, headline shows and a casino with a fun youthful vibe too.

Although present on the Strip for over 20 years, Planet Hollywood doesn’t have the status or presence of other Strip resorts built around the same time such as New York-New York, Bellagio or the Venetian. However, it certainly still has a lot to offer, so I went along to try it out for myself.

♦️ Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino Overview

The site where Planet Hollywood stands has quite a history.

It first opened as the Tallyho Hotel and Country Club from 1962 as the only major resort in Nevada not to include a casino.

The owner, Edwin S. Lowe, a New York toy manufacturer wanted it to attract Las Vegas tourists who were not interested in gambling. The decision proved to be catastrophic though, with the resort closing within the year due to low revenue.

It then reopened as King's Crown Tallyho in 1963, but after several failed attempts to get a gambling licence due to lack of financial stability, it closed once again.

In 1966, it was bought out and transformed into the Aladdin hotel with a major renovation to an Arabian Nights theme as well as a gambling licence. The resort had a sparkling 15-foot Aladdin's Lamp sign outside and at the time and it housed the biggest casino on the Strip.

The Aladdin was considered such a top luxury hotel in May 1967 that it hosted Elvis and Priscilla Presley's wedding.

Over the next thirty years, though, Aladdin when through several bankruptcies and multiple owners until, eventually, its final owners chose to demolish it entirely and rebuild a bigger and better resort from scratch.

The old Aladdin was imploded in 1998 and the new Aladdin opened in 2000, including a new shopping mall called Desert Passage.

It was then sold under bankruptcy to Planet Hollywood in 2004, who began a three-year development project to rebrand and expand while the property remained open.

The renovation included replacing the desert landscape at the front of the hotel, and installing a modern futuristic façade with several large LED screens. The interior was also cleared of all Aladdin theming and turned into a bright modern space with neon lighting, go-go dancers, music and movie memorabilia.

The theme wasn’t necessarily Hollywood, it was more celebrity, glamour, rock-star, and it was club-like and edgy in design. The resort finally took the Planet Hollywood name officially in April 2007 and the shopping mall was renamed to Miracle Mile.

After further financial problems, Caesars Entertainment took ownership of the property in 2010 and they have remained ever since.

These days Planet Hollywood is regarded as a vibrant, mid-level resort in a very good location. The casino is medium sized, but the branding makes it different to other Las Vegas casinos. It has kept up its edgy reputation by continuing to attract a young lively crowd and hosting A-List music residencies.

Location

Planet Hollywood is located in the centre of the Las Vegas Strip. It is the most southern resort in a string of Caesars owned properties that runs the full length of the east side.

Next door to Planet Hollywood is Paris, followed by Horseshoe, Cromwell, Flamingo, LINQ and Harrah’s, all of which are Caesars resorts.

It is possible to walk the full distance between them and takes around 20 - 25 minutes allowing for busy walkways and pedestrian bridges. It makes not only for a very good casino crawl, but also the fact that all properties use the same rewards program comes in handy.

Behind the resorts is the Las Vegas monorail which will take you south to MGM Grand or north all the way to Sahara. The Paris/Horseshoe stop is the closest to Planet Hollywood and rides cost from $6 for a single ride up to $15 for a day pass. You can get a three-day or seven-day pass as well.

Opposite Planet Hollywood is Cosmopolitan, and this is sandwiched in between Bellagio with its world-famous Fountain Show and other MGM properties Vdara and Aria

You can easily access these resorts from Planet Hollywood using either pedestrian crossings on the Strip or pedestrian bridges over it.

Once on the west side, the properties are linked through internal and external walkways or you can take the free Aria Express tram which goes between Bellagio, Vdara, The Shops at Crystals, Aria and Park MGM.

If you want to explore more of the Strip, it is possible to walk the full length, but it’s not advisable in the Las Vegas heat. Alternatively rideshare and taxis are readily available, and the Deuce Bus is a cheap alternative that can take you the full length of the Strip and to Downtown Las Vegas too. There’s a stop directly outside of Planet Hollywood.

If you are taking a taxi from Harry Reid International Airport then Planet Hollywood is in Zone 2 of the fixed rate taxi fee which is a flat fee of $26 plus tip. If you travel by car, then on-site parking ranges from $18 - $23 per night depending on what nights you are visiting.

🎰 Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Casino Review

The casino at Planet Hollywood is around 70,000 square feet, which is similar to that of Horseshoe. The look and feel of Planet Hollywood casino is quite distinctive in that it has a nightclub feel to it.

Although the floor is generally quite dark, it has an abundance of neon lighting across the ceilings, down the walls and above the table games. There are lots of striped lit up gold pillars on the casino floor, with bright pink and red lighting, and billboards around the mezzanine floor highlighting residences and upcoming gigs.

Around the casino there are various features and talking points. There are some motorbikes in glass cases from the Criss Angel Show, an exposed brick feature wall with a tube train, plus movie memorabilia from Hollywood films.

The music is also probably the loudest you’ll find on the Strip. I’ve had whole conversations with waitresses in here that have been done mostly in mime due to the noise! To be fair though, that has been at peak times.

At the weekend it attracts a young crowd, and the table games can get exceptionally busy. During the day though, it can be fairly quiet especially during weekdays. If you’re someone who enjoys a more chilled gaming experience, I recommend you visit then.

Table Games Selection

Planet Hollywood has about 70 table games, most of which are in the centre of the casino floor. There’s a good selection of games including the usual blackjack, craps, roulette plus a variety of poker pit games too.

I did see $5 minimums on some of the poker pit variations in the morning, however most changed to $10 later in the day.

Almost all Blackjack tables were 6:5 and they started with a $15 minimum, although I did see one 3:2 table with a $25 minimum which is a rare find on the Strip.

I couldn’t find any single zero roulette games, not even in the high limit room, only double zero and the dreaded triple zero roulette variations.

The table games area is vibrant at Planet Hollywood. There’s usually a pretty lively atmosphere and there does tend to be a younger crowd, but the dealers are professional and manage it well.

The tables and chairs do have some marks on them, and you can tell they’ve been used quite a lot. But Planet Hollywood attracts players who are more interested in the fun vibe than the condition of the chairs so it’s not an issue.

Classic table games:

  • Blackjack
  • Roulette
  • Craps
  • Baccarat

Variants:

  • Pai Gow Poker
  • Let it Ride
  • Three Card Poker
  • Ultimate Texas Hold’em Bonus Poker
  • Mississippi Stud
  • Crapless Craps

If you’re a poker player, then unfortunately the poker room at Planet Hollywood is no longer open. However, you’ll find good poker rooms at both Aria and Horseshoe which are close by.

If you enjoy electronic table games, then there’s a good stadium gaming set up at Planet Hollywood. You can play live dealer blackjack here from $10, plus there’s some roulette, craps and video blackjack options too which have a $5 bet minimum.

Slots

There are just over 900 slot games at Planet Hollywood, the majority of which are modern video slots. The back of the casino does have some more traditional three and five-reel games though if you enjoy playing those.

In the centre of the casino is the spectacular Glass Bar and the slots circulate around that spilling in all different directions.

I would say that although you’ll find a good selection of games to play, there are other casinos with more variety on the Strip. There’s more than enough to keep you entertained for a few hours though.

The slots were well spaced out, I never felt cramped or crowded when playing and I enjoyed a few wins, which always makes for a great day.

Some of the most popular games on offer at Planet Hollywood include:

  • Dragon Link
  • Cash Falls
  • Piggy Bankin
  • Huff n More Puff
  • Buffalo Ascension
  • Cluck Cluck Cash
  • Jackpot Carnival
  • Super Bowl Jackpots

Bar-Top Gaming

You can play bar-top games at the Glass Bar, the Sportsbook Ringer Bar, Blue Moon Bar and the small casino bar known as the Extra Bar at Planet Hollywood.

Just pull up a seat at the bar, insert your cash and bartenders will serve complimentary drinks as you play (as long as you’re spending enough).

There are different systems in place to establish when you’re entitled to a free drink. Sometimes there’s a light system or sometimes it’s a ticket system but generally your server will keep you topped up as long as you’re gambling.

Bar-top games usually offer video poker and a few other games such as blackjack, keno or some slots. It’s a great way to spend some time in a casino and is a little more social than just sitting at a slot machine. Just remember to keep tipping your server when they bring your drinks.

The main feature of Planet Hollywood is the PH Live Theatre and the Miracle Mile Shops which wrap around it. This is one of the reasons Planet Hollywood is so popular as the shopping centre contains many bars, restaurants, and shops that add so much extra value and convenience to the resort.

Planet Hollywood Sportsbook

The Caesars sportsbook at Planet Hollywood is just off the casino floor and offers a nice comfortable area for watching and betting on sports.

With multiple big screens, soft leather seating, and tables at the back, it offers a great open space to relax and watch the big game.

The sportsbook also includes a lounge area, and its own Ringer bar with bar-top games, and a snacks menu making it the perfect hang out.

If you want to place sports bets, you can use the betting window or one of the self-service kiosks around the floor. Bets can be placed on a range of sports including football, soccer, tennis, hockey, basketball and boxing and you can bet on live events as well as futures.

Waitress Service

As with all Vegas casinos, Planet Hollywood does have a complimentary drinks service with waitresses who circulate the gaming floor.

This service can be hit and miss depending on the property you’re in, but I’ve always found it to be good at Planet Hollywood. In fact, it was a waitress in Planet Hollywood who suggested I first try a Malibu Bay Breeze and I’ve enjoyed them ever since.

If you’re not sure what to ask for, then usually beers, spirits and mixers and basic cocktails are fine to request. Some properties also serve wine, cider and even champagne, but this isn’t the case here. Just ask your waitress what they have and tip well if you want them to return.

The great news about the waitress service in Las Vegas is that it doesn’t matter if you’re betting at 50c a spin or $50 a hand, as long as you’re gambling you’re entitled to drinks.

High Limit

There are two high limit lounges at Planet Hollywood, one for slots and one for table games.

The high limit slots area is to the rear of the casino and is quite small. There’s around 20 – 25 slots in there with denominations from 10c upwards. The minimum bet is usually $5 so if this is within your range, then it can be nice to try out the high-limit lounge for a more refined gambling experience.

Although I have to say that, in my experience, the Planet Hollywood high limit slots area isn’t really that different from the main casino floor unlike other Vegas casinos.

The high limit table salon at Planet Hollywood does have a more high-end feel and can be found just off the central gaming floor. There’s only a handful of tables here, the highlight being six deck 3:2 blackjack that stands on soft 17 with a table minimum of $100.

Cash and Payment Options

To gamble at Planet Hollywood, you need to have cash to hand. To play slots, you insert cash straight into the slots and to play table games you exchange cash for chips with the dealer.

The casino is not yet geared up to accept card payments when gambling, although you can use card for everything else in resort.

The slots use a TITO system (Ticket in, Ticket Out), where winnings are paid out from the machine by a ticket instead of cash. You can then reuse that ticket in another machine to continue playing or redeem it at a cash redemption station instead.

When playing table games, you take any chips you have won to the cashier desk to swap them for cash.

If you don’t have cash and need to withdraw some, then there are ATM’s on the casino floor, just be wary of inflated withdrawal fees.

🛏️ Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Hotel

Planet Hollywood has just under 2500 rooms and suites and many of them have great views of the Las Vegas Strip.

The hotel has the same contemporary design as the casino with lots of colour on the walls and carpets as well as framed celebrity memorabilia around the elevators and corridors.

The hotel tower is 39 storeys tall and as well as the casino floor, there’s also a mezzanine floor where you’ll find shows and restaurants too.

The main feature of Planet Hollywood is the PH Live Theatre and the Miracle Mile Shops which wrap around it. This is one of the reasons Planet Hollywood is so popular as the shopping centre contains many bars, restaurants, and shops that add so much extra value and convenience to the resort.

Planet Hollywood Rooms

There are a range of rooms at Planet Hollywood including Ultra Hip Rooms, Ultra Resort Vista Rooms and Panoramic Suites. I went for the Ultra Hip Double Queen Room with a Strip view.

The room was 450 square feet and felt very spacious. The walls were predominantly white with splashes of colour from a large animal print design and some magazine cover framed artwork. The carpets, curtains and furniture were grey and there was some purple fabrics and furnishings.

As well as a bedside table, there was a table and two chairs beside the window and a unit that had some significant markings and wear on it. The wardrobe had a print on the front of a city night scene with large Hollywood spotlights shining down.

The bathroom was a good size and was all tiled in neutral white. There was one sink, a separate WC area, a huge soaking bathtub and a big separate shower.

The room had all the regular amenities of hairdryer, iron/ironing board, TV, bathroom toiletries and a safe. There was also a mini-fridge to store your own refreshments which was really handy.

The view from the room was spectacular overlooking the Bellagio and I lost count of the number of Fountain Shows I watched while relaxing in my room.

All-in-all I thought the room at Planet Hollywood was excellent. The only negative was the damage on the main unit, but it wasn’t enough to spoil anything. The rest of the room was well maintained, it had lots of space, bright décor, nice bathroom and beautiful view, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again.

🍔 Planet Hollywood Amenities

Bars

The main bar at Planet Hollywood is the Glass Bar which was recently installed to replace the old Heart Bar right in the centre of the casino. The Glass Bar is visually stunning and offers luxurious cocktails, and bar-top gaming in the middle of all the action.

The other bars at Planet Hollywood include:

Ringer Bar – chilled sportsbook bar with great choice of beer and bar-top games

Extra Bar – casino bar with lively atmosphere and bar-top games

Blue Moon Bar – craft brew and beer-based cocktails outside of PH Live Theatre

Purple Zebra Bar – daiquiri bar with over 20 flavours to mix and match

Outside of the casino but within the Miracle Mile shops you’ll also find bars such as Flights and Blondies Sports Bar and Grill. Both have special happy hours which I’ve sampled more than once and highly recommend.

If you want something even more unique you might want to try Tipsy Robot where you select your cocktail on an iPad and then watch as a robot prepares and presents it to you without any human assistance.

Buffets and Restaurants

Planet Hollywood offers a good mix of different cuisines and a range of dining choices from casual to more high-end.

P.F. Chang’s serves Asian cuisine and has both indoor seating and an outdoor patio area. The last time I ate there I sat in the outdoor area on a nice evening and had a lovely view of the Bellagio Fountain Show. The food was delicious too.

Gordon Ramsey Burger is highly popular and regularly has long queues during peak times. It comes with a fairly high price tag for a burger, but in my opinion it’s worth trying at least once.

Café Hollywood is the ideal place for breakfast, lunch or late night eats. It has an American diner theme and the walls are adorned with celebrity photos and autographs so it’s a really cool spot.

Other food options at Planet Hollywood include Japanese restaurant Koi, Yolo’s Mexican Grill, Strip House Steak House, Ringer Bar, Earl of Sandwich and Pin Up Pizza.

There are also numerous eateries inside Miracle Mile Shops including the infamous Ocean One Grill with all day happy hours and La Salsa Cantina.

There is no buffet at Planet Hollywood, the closest ones are the Wicked Spoon buffet at Cosmopolitan and the Buffet at Bellagio.

Shows and Entertainment

Planet Hollywood is known for its world class headline acts. It’s part of its brand.

Britney Spears had a residency here as did Backstreet Boys, Justin Timberlake, Lionel Ritchie, Kelly Clarkson, Miranda Lambert and Gwen Stefani. The current residency at the time of writing is Shania Twain.

The main theatre, which has recently been renamed PH Live, hosts 7,000 people and has state of the art visual and audio capabilities. It was previously called the Axis, the  Zappos Theater and the Bakkt Theater.

Another current residency at Planet Hollywood is Criss Angel MINDFREAK which is a 75-minute magic and illusion show that has been in place at Planet Hollywood for five years.

Within Miracle Mile there are two more theatres the V Theater and Saxe Theater, both of which have a busy calendar of music, comedy and entertainment shows.

If you love shopping, then Miracle Mile Shops is literally attached to the resort and has everything from clothing to homeware, gift shops, shoe shops, sports shops and designer wear too.

💧 Planet Hollywood Pool and Spa

There are two pools, the FlowRider wave machine and a spa and salon for guests to enjoy at Planet Hollywood.

Pool

Both pools at Planet Hollywood are on the same rooftop known as the Scene Pool Deck.

One pool is suitable for swimming and is family friendly and the other is for adults only and has its own bar. In between them is a chill out area with sun loungers, a café and some lawn games.

The loungers are free to use, but you can treat yourself to a private cabana or a comfortable day bed if you want a more VIP pool experience.

Also on the pool deck is the FlowRider, the Strips only free-standing wave machine. If you’re an adventurous type, you can have a go at surfing on this man-made contraption. I have zero coordination so didn’t give it a try, but it was very fun to watch.

Spa

The Reflections Spa at Planet Hollywood has a whirlpool, sauna, steam room, relaxing lounge, a salon and a fitness center to give you a breather from the hustle and bustle of the Strip.

They offer a range of treatments including massages, facials, water therapy as well as nail care so you can fully spoil yourself. You can get half day or full day passes to the spa as well as treatment packages too.

💰 Planet Hollywood Casino Bonuses and Promotions

Planet Hollywood is part of the Caesars Rewards program which is one of the best in Las Vegas.

Caesars Rewards runs across all of its properties so that means Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, Paris, Horseshoe, Cromwell, Flamingo, LINQ, and Harrah’s in Las Vegas.

There’s also another 50 Caesars owned properties across North America that are included in the program too, which means you can earn and redeem points in multiple ways.

Every Caesars casino has a Caesars Rewards desk, so to sign up to the program, just head there with some photographic ID. You must be over 21 of course.

Once registered, you can pick up points by showing and using your rewards card whenever you spend money in a Caesars resort.

When gambling, insert it in the slot or hand it to your dealer and when paying for bills, hotel stays, shopping, dining etc just hand it to your server and ask them to add the points to your card.

You’ll earn one Reward Credit for every $1 spent on hotel stays, shopping, dining, and amenities such as spa treatments. For gambling you earn one Reward Credit for every $5 you play on a slot machine and every $10 played on video poker. If you’re a live keno player, then you earn one Reward Credit for every $3 wagered.

You can also earn points by placing sports bets at a Caesars sportsbook or online. As a general rule, you get ten Rewards Credits for every $100 you bet, but it can differ per bet.

If you’re a table games player, it’s hard to be specific, but your dealer will give your card to the pit manager and they’ll assess your Rewards Credits based on the game you play, your average bet and how long you play for.

As well as receiving Reward Credits which can be redeemed against resort costs you’ll also get Tier Credits which help you climb the Caesars Rewards status tiers as below:

Gold (0 – 4,000 Tier credits) – Free or discounted hotel stays, turn Rewards Credits into free slot play

Platinum (5,000 – 14,999 Tier credits) – all of the above plus complimentary valet parking, and a monthly $10 Caesars bonus bet

Diamond (15,000 – 24,999 Tier credits) – all of the above plus $100 celebration dinner and waived resort fees

Diamond Plus (25,000 – 74,999 Tier credits) – all of the above plus guaranteed rooms with 72 hours’ notice and access to VIP lounge

Diamond Elite (75,000 – 149,999 Tier credits) – all of the above plus airfare credit of up to $600

Seven Stars (150,000 + Tier credits) – VIP host, complimentary annual retreat including airfare

Although the higher your status, the more rewards you get, don’t worry if that’s way out of your league. The good news about Caesars Rewards is that you can receive benefits such as free hotel stays even on the lowest tier.

💭 My Planet Hollywood Verdict

Planet Hollywood is a well-known name worldwide, but isn’t particularly known for its Las Vegas location. However, it is ideally situated to experience Las Vegas and all it has to offer.

The casino itself isn’t the biggest or the most varied, especially when compared to some of its neighbours, but it has just enough of everything that you want to play. And it is close by to so many other casinos anyway.

The property attracts a youthful and vibrant crowd which can be seen in the lively casino atmosphere, the bright colours and did I mention the loud music?!

For convenience and amenities, Planet Hollywood has lots to offer. With its own range of restaurants and bars already good, it also has all of the additional Miracle Mile options too.

Although I didn’t see a show there, the residencies are obviously a big attraction, the pool area was nice and my room was spacious, clean and very comfortable.

For anyone looking to visit a centrally located, well-presented and good all-round resort in Las Vegas that is affordable, I would definitely recommend Planet Hollywood.
