Cops 'n' Robbers Megaways sticks with the retro look of the original game. The game may look like it was released much earlier than 2024, but this is by design, with Cops 'n' Robbers Megaways paying homage to the title that started it all. 

The reels have a simple black design, while a night-time city skyline fills the background. This is all brought to life with some old-school sound effects, while the titular cops and robbers make appearances as symbols on the reels. 

Cops 'n' Robbers Megaways utilizes the Megaways gameplay mechanic well. The slot has six reels, each of which can display up to seven symbols, with the middle four reels having an additional row above them. The maximum number of Megaways that can land on a spin is 117,649, with the current number of Megaways displayed on the left-hand side of the grid. 

Like most free Megaways slots, Cops 'n' Robbers Megaways uses a Cascading Wins mechanic. Whenever players land a win, the symbols are removed from the grid, and new ones fall into their place. This continues happening until no new winning combinations are formed. 

A key feature in the game is the two modifiers that can be launched by the police lamp on the right-hand side of the game grid. It can flash on any spin. If it flashes blue, a random number of mystery symbols will be added to the reels. These can reveal any symbol. 

If the light flashes red, spins begin showing an increasing number of Megaways until it reaches the maximum. A robber will appear and move across the reels, stopping if the light flashes red and moving if it goes green. If he makes it to the other side, Scatter symbols are added, guaranteeing a bonus trigger, or a win of greater than 5x is guaranteed. The round ends if the reels reach the maximum number of spins or a bonus is naturally triggered. 

Landing three Scatters will give players the option of two bonus games. First is the Free Spins round, which rewards eight spins and an additional two for every other Scatter on the reels. A progressive win multiplier, starting at x1, is added to the reels. There is also the chance a Walking Wild may start moving across the reels. 

The second option is the Chase. This is a board-game style bonus where players roll a dice and move a robber around the screen, collecting prizes. A snooze count is active during the round, and when it ends, a copper chasing the robber, and the ID parade occurs. If the robber is not caught, the round starts again. If he is caught, it ends, and all collected winnings are paid out. 

Whenever players land a win of 5x or more in the game, a Free Spins gamble feature is triggered. This gives players the chance to spin a wheel where they can lose their spins, double them, or trigger free spins. 

Unfortunately, there is no buy bonus option in the game. 

As a fan of the original Cops ‘n’ Robbers game, I was excited to play Cops 'n' Robbers Megaways for real money, and I wasn’t disappointed. I played the game for $1 a spin and found it served up plenty of action. The Free Spins round was, naturally, where the money was at, but the two modifiers also helped me land some big wins. 

I played around 100 spins of the slot and triggered each of the light bonuses, as well as the Free spins round. I opted for The Chase bonus as it felt like something different, and it didn’t disappoint. I ended up winning around $140 from the initial $100, with big wins coming in the bonus rounds. 

The Cops 'n' Robbers Megaways slot is highly volatile. The RTP is slightly below average at 95.5%, though this is not alarmingly low. The maximum win on offer in the game is a strong 12,500x your stake. 

Whether you have played the original Cops ‘n’ Robbers slot game or not, there is plenty to enjoy with Cops 'n' Robbers Megaways. The game has a charming retro design, is packed with great bonuses, and has some good winning potential. 

The two police lamp modifiers help to keep every spin in the base game interesting, while the free spins round, the Megaways mechanic, and the Cascading Wins all come together nicely to create some huge winning potential. 

There are many instances of a developer taking a popular property and just adding the Megaways mechanic without doing anything else, but I was delighted to see that wasn’t the case here, with the Chase feature also making a fantastic addition.
