Minesweeper Review

For all the popularity online slots enjoy, there are some levels they simply can’t reach. Take legacy games, for example. Space Wars, any of the Mario games, or Solitaire and Minesweeper are classics that never go out of style. The latter is probably the best time-killer game you can play on your computer, and thanks to BGaming, it finally got a much-needed update.

BGaming is primarily known for its online slots, but Minesweeper is no such thing. This is a modern reimagining of the original game, with updated graphics, layout, and thrills. It’s just as easy to play as the original, but the updated field, better visuals, and an improved experience overall make it a much better option.

On top of that, the game comes with a real money mode, meaning you can play for prizes. It works in a similar way to modern crash games. The more fields you open up, the higher the multiplier grows. There are no bonuses or specials whatsoever, but even without them, it’s still the good ol’ exciting Minesweeper.

Minesweeper Layout and Setup

Minesweeper has a simple setup that’s easy to follow. Unlike modern online slots which have reels and thousands of ways to win, you only get a grass field with separate spots in the middle of the screen and controls on the right side.

Well, control – there’s only one button. It alternates between start and collect, allowing you to play the game and collect prizes.

There’s no background music – just sound effects when the mines blow. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen often when you play it.

I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to punch my monitor while one or two steps away from clearing the grid.

How to Play Minesweeper

Playing Minesweeper is easy. If you’ve ever tried the original or played modern slot games, you’ll have no trouble starting. The betting tool is in the lower right corner. You can easily adjust your bet by clicking on it, ranging from $1 to $100 per spin. Keep in mind that the original game could only be played for fun. Due to the real money gameplay, I advise you to be cautious with your bets.

The gameplay is straightforward. Click the start button after you pick a bet, and you’ll be presented with five sections on the first row of the grass field. You should click on the one where you begin. Keep in mind that even the starting grid isn’t safe from the mines. You can fail on the first try with no strategy to help you.

If it’s a successful pick, the second row lights up. The process is the same. You keep picking one out of the five positions, and the longer you stay alive, the higher the multiplier you receive in return. The prize is lowest on the first pick (1.23x) and highest on the last one (15x). Between each pick, you can choose to collect the prize or continue. If you click collect, you go back to the beginning. Choose to continue playing, and you might earn a higher multiplier.

You may also lose it all if you step on a mine. Make your pick carefully, or it might blow up all in your face.

Minesweeper Bonus Features & Bonus Buy

Minesweeper isn’t a slot, so naturally, it doesn’t have a bonus round. All you get is what you see when you fire the game up. It’s a thrilling game for sure, but the lack of a bonus round might disappoint some players.

My Experience Playing Minesweeper for Real Money

I’ve been familiar with Minesweeper since my younger days. I played the game passionately, and I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to punch my monitor while one or two steps away from clearing the grid. It’s been years since I’ve played it, and much to my surprise, BGaming did a great job with the modern version.

It still feels like the old game, but now there’s a real money incentive. I played it with $1 per round and only managed to get a step away from the finish line once in ten playthroughs. It’s just as adrenaline-surging as I remember the game, and I’m glad that the studio managed to capture the atmosphere of the original.

Minesweeper RTP and Max Payout

Minesweeper has an RTP of 98.4%, which is fairly high. However, the winning potential might be low for some players, as the highest multiplier is just x15.

Minesweeper Verdict and Recommended Games

Minesweeper by BGaming is a great update to the classic casino game. It doesn’t change much from the original except in the visuals department, and let’s face it – it needed such an update long ago. If you’re a fan of good ol’ Minesweeper, you have to try this one for fun or real money. With real money prizes in the mix, sweeping the field for mines is much more appealing.

If you’re into legacy games and classics, you can try Space Wars by NetEnt. Or check the portfolio of your favorite game providers – there might be a few homages there.
