When Novomatic released the Book of Ra Deluxe slot, it is difficult to imagine that they predicted the “Book of…” genre becoming such an ever-present in the online slot world. Ramses Book by Gamomat inverts the title, but make no mistake; this is straight from the standard "Book of..." gaming blueprint. Join me as I take a virtual trip to Ancient Egypt in a quest to land big wins with the help of some expanding symbols in this Ramses Book slot review. 

Gamomat's slots always tend to be fairly basic, so I was not surprised by the simple design of the Ramses Book slot. The game’s reels are positioned deep inside some sort of Ancient Egyptian temple, with the symbols consisting of the standard imagery you expect to find in a slot from the genre, including a tablet covered in hieroglyphics, a falcon representing Horus, and a statue of Anubis, the half-dog, half-man God of Death. 

The titular Ramses is an Egyptian pharaoh who acts as the game’s highest-paying symbol, while his book appears as the Wild and the Scatter and is used to trigger the Free Spins bonus, which I will discuss later in this Ramses Book slot review. 

Like the game’s design, the set-up for Ramses Book is fairly conventional. The slot uses a 5x3 game grid, with wins being formed when you land three or more matching symbols across a payline on consecutive reels. 

One feature I liked in Ramses Book was the ability to change the number of paylines. You can opt for either five or ten using the option displayed on the control panel under the reels. The game’s paylines are displayed outside the grid, as well as in the paytable. 

As I mentioned in the introduction to this Ramses Book slot review, the slot utilizes the popular ‘Book of’ gameplay mechanics made famous in titles like Play’n GO’s Book of Dead. 

To trigger the Ramses Book Free Spins bonus, you need to land three or more of the Book Scatter symbols. You are given 10 spins. At the start of the round, a random symbol is selected as the Bonus Symbol for the duration of the spins. The Book can not act as the Bonus. Whenever the selected symbol lands, it will expand to fill its respective reel, and any new wins that are formed will be calculated. 

Another feature you will encounter in the game is the Gamble bonus. This is triggered every time you land a win. There are two gamble bonuses to choose from: the Card Gamble and the Ladder Gamble. 

In the Card Gamble, you must attempt to pick the color of a face-down card to double your money. In the Ladder Gamble, they can continue to go up a ladder, with the possibility of losing their money or doubling it on every rung. 

For this review, I took the Ramses Book slot for a spin using my laptop and an iPhone. The game’s simple design made it very user-friendly, with everything being exactly where I would expect it to be.

Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed with the game’s lack of a Buy Bonus feature. Without this option, I had to wait for the bonus round to trigger so I could test it out. It took around 30 spins for the bonus to trigger, but obviously, this will vary for each player. 

The Ramses Book mobile slot was well-optimized, providing the same experience I had on my laptop. The betting options range from $0.10-$100, which is a healthy range which should cover all budgets. 

Ramses Book has a modest math model. The game’s maximum win is 6,716x your stake, and the RTP comes in at a solid 96.15%. The slot has been given a medium rating by Gamomat, which I would say was reflected in my own experience of the game. 

Ramses Book slot is every bit as generic as it sounds. Unfortunately, the game fails to do anything new with the Egyptian genre or the "Book of..." mechanic, feeling very much like it has arrived straight from the production line. The maximum win of over 6,000x your stake is solid enough for this type of game, but it does little to distinguish itself from other similar titles.
