Riches of Olympus sticks very much to the blueprint of an Olympus-themed slot. The reels are positioned high above the clouds, with the stairway to the palace sitting behind the grid. Large white marble columns border the game, while Zeus stands beside the reels, wielding a lightning bolt.

The reels are full of imagery associated with Ancient Greece and its mythology. You will find a harp, Hermes’ winged boots, a Spartan helmet, and several other images used for symbols. A swirling soundtrack plays as the reels spin, with the tempo being ramped up when players land a win or trigger a bonus round.

Riches of Olympus by Yggdrasil uses a 6x5 game grid, making it slightly bigger than your average online slot game. There are no traditional paylines in the slot, with the game paying out for combinations of eight or more matching symbols landing anywhere across the reels. 

The game has a very basic layout. The +/—buttons on either side of the spin button adjust the stake. The autoplay feature is to the right of the action.

The bonuses in the Riches of Olympus slot are built around free spins and multipliers. The first feature players will almost definitely encounter is the Tumble mechanic. Whenever you land a winning combination, the symbols are removed from the grid, and new ones fall from above. This continues happening until no new winning combinations are formed. 

Multiplier symbols can land on any spin. When a Multiplier lands, it will take on a value of either 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 8x, 10x, 12x, 15x, or 25x. 

At the end of any winning sequence, any multipliers on the screen are added together and applied to the win. 

The Global Multiplier can also land on any spin and display values of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 8x, 10x, or 20x. The total multiplier value is multiplied by the Global Multiplier.

Landing three or more Scatters triggers the Riches of Olympus Free Spins round. Three, four, or five Scatters trigger 10, 15, or 50 spins, respectively. If you trigger with five or six Scatters, you will start with a 50x Multiplier. Three or more additional Scatter symbols will re-trigger an extra five spins.

Players can buy their way into the Free Spins bonus using the Buy Free Spins option. They can buy 10, 15, or 15 spins with a 50x multiplier for 100x, 150x, or 650x their stake, respectively.

After playing the Riches of Olympus slot demo for a few spins to test the game mechanics, I played the game for real money in my chosen casino online. I set my stake at $1 and set the game up for 50 auto spins. It looked as though they were not going to deliver anything, with just three wins coming, until the 47th spin when the Free Spins bonus hit. 

This was not the most lucrative set of spins. I was initially rewarded 10 spins and then retriggered five additional ones on the penultimate spin. I ended up winning $19.80 from the free spins bonus, leaving me down after the 50 spins. I then decided to play for a further 25 spins and hit a $61.20 win in the base game on my third spin. The remaining spins only served up a few wins, but overall, after 75 spins, I ended up being around $25 up.

The math model for Riches of Olympus is a mixed bag. It boasts a solid maximum win of 10,000x your stake but is let down by a below-average RTP of 94.00%. The game is considered highly volatile, reflected in my experience.

Riches of Olympus is a game that will not rewrite the rule book of its genre anytime soon. While the game’s high volatility and bonus rounds can lead to some big wins and some good sequences of play, the low RTP will turn many players away, and rightly so. The maximum win of 10,000x your stake is solid enough, but you can find similar games with the same win rates with much more generous math models.
