It’s like you can’t go a week without some gaming developer wanting to drop another Egyptian-themed slot machine. I must have reviewed a thousand of these already this year.
In this review, I drag us back in time to the age and ruling of the Egyptian god Ra. The game by Thunderbolt Gaming and Yggdrasil is Rise and Fall of Ra. In this slot review, I will be covering all gaming aspects, from the in-play bonus features to the software programming. If you are new to online slot machines, then you will find my reviews clear and simple, just as the games are to play. Embedded in this review is a free demo of the game that you can play on any device, with no downloading necessary.
If you are a pro of online gambling, then you might be curious as to where you can play Rise and Fall of Ra for real money. This is something Casinos.com can assist you with. All the top casinos online are reviewed, and they will tell you which support the work of Yggdrasil software.
So, Rise and Fall of Ra is a slot that falls into the genre category of Egyptian. The design looks terrible, which is not normally customary for Yggdrasil. When the game launches, you are met with a poor design of pyramids, palm trees, and what looks to be a sea of blood, aka, the Red Sea. Behind this is an ever-moving skyline which is about the only impressive thing about the look of this game.
The slot itself comes with a layout that begins with a 5-4-3-3-4-5 layout, but the reels can expand higher as gaming elements progress. This is also a Ways to Win game, so there are no paylines involved. At the base level of play, Rise and Fall of Ra opens with 729 ways to win. This can grow to a staggering 531,441 ways to win once you have opened the reels to their full capacity.
The oddity is that this game has more background to it than the slot itself. This makes the symbols small and almost ineligible.
When I saw this game, my immediate thoughts were, “What the heck is this?” I hate Egyptian-themed games. They have been done so many times over that you begin to wonder what came first, the pyramids or the slots.
While the game can pose some complications, it is not difficult to play at all. When you start the game, first, make sure that the bet amount per spin is to a value you can afford to spend. You can adjust this within the coin icon. Press on this and use the plus or minus buttons to set your bet amount. The minimum bet is $0.25, and the maximum is $125 per spin.
To begin the game, press the revolving eye button, aka the spin button. You can opt to play with auto spins if you want, and above this, you will see the Bonus Boost button. Press this to increase your bet, and the game will play with a higher chance of landing the necessary bonus symbols.
To form wins, you must land 3 or more matching symbols that meet across adjacent symbols. This can be vertical and horizontal. However, the combination can only work from left to right of the reels.
The columns can be moved upon landing the right symbols. Should you land the gold and green Horus symbol, the reel will increase in size as the column shifts upwards. You will see that Bonus appears along the top of each reel. When the reel is fully revealed, Bonus lights up, and you will activate the bonus feature.
You can also access the bonus rounds by landing 3 bonus symbols during the base gaming.
When the bonus round is unleashed, the game flips upside down and changes color. Though the reels are reversed, the game still plays in the same manner. Should you land a Horus symbol, the reel’s columns will move downwards. Once fully uncovered, you will trigger the Bonus Wheel.
The Bonus wheel contains several features that will trigger one of the following:
Low-Prize Bonus Wheel: This wheel contains multipliers that go from x3 up to x50.
High-Prize Bonus Wheel: This comes with multiplier rewards that range from x10 to x500.
Lock in Sticky Stacked Wilds: This means that all stacked wilds remain in play for the duration of your free spins.
Mini-Link Bonus: Activate 3 respins that come with multiplier symbols that range from x1 to x10 in value.
Free Spins Bonus: Direct access to free spins.
You can bypass all the fluff of playing and buy your way into the bonus rounds via the Bonus button at the bottom of the right-sided control panel. The cost is greater, for example, 1 spin at a bet of $1.25, will cost you $74.50.
With this said, you can accumulate up to 6 bonus games within 1 spin, and you can win up to 15,000 times your betting wager.
When I saw this game, my immediate thoughts were, “What the heck is this?” I hate Egyptian-themed games. They have been done so many times over that you begin to wonder what came first, the pyramids or the slots.
Anyway, I wasn’t going to pay for this experience, so I played the Rise and Fall of Ra demo game. As I failed to land the bonus in any of my 50 spins, I opted to pay for the experience. I kept my bet amount to $1.25 and purchased the bonus for $74.50. Immediately, I was playing more than 1 spin, which made no sense given it says you pay for 1 spin. Anyway, within my first 10 spins, I landed the Bonus Wheel. This landed on the Higer-Prize bonus wheel, which rewarded me x20 my wager.
I ended up winning $56.40 at the end of the bonus spin. This is less than what I paid, so there is no guarantee that the bonus round will pay off.
The RTP shifts based on the features of the game that are involved. As standard, the game comes with an RTP of 96%. This will, however, drop to 94%, 90.5%, and even 86%, depending on features, bonuses, and the size of the ways to win.
The volatility of Rise and Fall of Ra comes in at a medium setting, which is my ideal programming level. The max that can be won is $12,959,875.00, which makes the medium volatility the more surprising. But the drop to 86% RTP is unsurprising.
There are some good parts, but this is all down to the medium volatility, which makes the game more balanced with wins and losses. Features seem to strike more frequently, and it can make for entertaining gameplay.
However, it is still all very basic. The game looks like it should offer more, but it doesn’t. Yes, the jackpot potential is massive, but when an RTP at 86% shows up on a game, it’s impossible to win the main prize.
Many players will like this game because the theme is so popular. If you like the demo, then I recommend you also try the games:
Book of Dead by Play’n GO
John Hunter and the Tomb of the Scarab Queen by Pragmatic Play
Eye of Horus by Blueprint Gaming
You can play these as free demo games at Casinos.com or for real money inside the best casinos online.

Read Full BioRise and Fall of Ra was made by Thunderbolt Gaming and Yggdrasil. Yggdrasil is a developer that I’m not that keen on. They make some good games, but mostly, they are not to my taste. Some of their well-known slots include Holmes and the Stolen Stones, Vikings Go Berzerk and Vampire Riches.
Rise and Fall of Ra can be played for free as a demo game. You can access this demo right here in this review, and you can play it on any iOS or Android mobile device. You cannot access this as a free real money game unless the casino you join provides a rare no deposit bonus.
There are many casinos online that support the Yggdrasil software. You should look at the casino reviews in the top 10 list to help you locate the platforms and then make the decision on which casino best supports the games, banking, and promotions you’re after.
Yes, the game does come with a free spins bonus round, which isn’t like a normal free spins round. During this feature, you can strike bonuses that launch bonus wheels, and these can come with high multipliers to boost win amounts.
Rise and Fall of Ra comes with a Bonus Buy option, but it is by no means cheap. Players can select this to help them skip past the base game and enter into the free spins bonus round. However, be warned that it doesn’t guarantee you will win big.
The Rise and Fall of Ra slot was released by Yggdrasil in February 2024. This is already one of many games released this year so far. Upcoming games to keep an eye on are The Runemakers: Double Max and Skylantis 2.
