You can see the light peeking from a crack behind the grid, and the leprechaun himself showing you what’s to find spinning the reels. The pot of golden coins is right next to him. The symbols on the grid tell you that you’re about to embark on a real Irish adventure. You see the leprechaun’s pipe, hear the Irish folklore sound coming from his violin, and with a bit of shamrock luck, you will find the gold hidden below his green hat. As you load the Splash of Gold slot, you instantly enter a cave, and you see the shily blinking leprechaun on the left of the grid, flipping a golden coin. The grid itself is made of wood, with ivy hugging its sides. The high-paying symbols on the five reels are all Irish theme-fitting, so you have the violin, the leprechaun's hat placed on top of golden coins, his pipe, and a shamrock. Low-pays are the generic, playing card royals. 

The gentle Irish folklore music in the background is soothing and relaxing. But, as you hit a major win, it surely changes to more entertaining and celebratory notes. Should you win one of the four fixed jackpot prizes displayed above the grid, the music intensifies even further. 

Below the grid, the setup buttons are placed. The spin button is the biggest, but next to it is the coins button. Here, you can adjust your bet from 0.20 to $40. As you go to the left, you see the “i” button that takes you to the paytable.

Now, the wild plays its usual role, which is a substitute for all symbols bar the pot of gold, coin, and leprechaun symbols. These three symbols play special roles in the triggering of the bonus features in this Irish luck-themed slot. 

Landing at random during the base and bonus game, a single pot of gold symbol awards one of the five prizes at the end of the round. These are the mini, minor, major, grand jackpots, and the top prize golden jackpot of 6,000x the stake. The golden pot of gold is only available in the base game. 

The leprechaun is a collect symbol. The sum value of all coins is multiplied by the collect multiplier value displayed on top of the reels whenever he appears. 

• Coins have values between 0.20x to 50x the stake. The collect multiplier starts at 1x and increases by 1 with each coin you land since the last collection. After every collection, it resets to 1x and only increases in the base game.

When you land 6 coins at once, you trigger the bonus round. All coins become sticky for the three respins that follow. 

• During the respins, you need to land more pot of gold, coins, or leprechaun symbols. If at least one appears in a spin, the number of respins resets. When all respins are used, the bonus ends. 

At the beginning of the bonus, though, a trail displays the leprechaun symbols, the grand prize, and multiplier values. 

• The trail starts on 1x and goes one position further with every leprechaun you land. The maximum multiplier is 5x. When the leprechaun lands on a respin, the sum of all pot of gold and coin symbols in view is collected and multiplied by the current trail multiplier, before it is cleared off the reels. 

If 8 leprechauns land during a feature, you win the grand prize. If you manage to fill the grid with both pot of gold and coin symbols, the feature ends, and the total is collected. 

Now, the last thing you should know here is that there’s a bonus guarantee display below the reels. It starts at 10x and increases each time you make a winning combo with the leprechaun, up to 200x. 

I was really lucky playing the Splash of Gold slot, I must say right away. As soon as I started playing and was in about my fourth spin, I hit the mini jackpot thanks to the pot of gold feature. I played with the max bet so I won $400. On spin 6, I won $80 for a combo with three high-paying symbols, and the bonus guarantee increased to $1,200. It increased to $2,000 by the 20^th spin. 

I started losing patience at around spin 35, as the guarantee increased to $2,400 but I couldn't trigger any of the bonus features to see what would come out of it. I was frustrated that there was no bonus buy option to get to the bonus round faster. So, eventually, I gave up on my 50^th spin and was truly disappointed that I did not manage to trigger any bonus feature. 

The Splash of Gold slot comes with an RTP of 96.17% and is a highly volatile slot, as we could see from my experience with it. The maximum payout the slot can deliver is 6,000x the stake. 

While it sounded promising in theory, with all those features and special symbols that were supposed to do magic, Splash of Gold disappointed me in practice.
