It's another official Goonies slot by Blueprint Gaming to add to the ever-expanding series that is absolutely milking this cult movie dry, but I don’t mind that one bit. 

The Goonies Megaways slot follows hot on the release of The Goonies Hey You Guys, which was the sequel to the slot, The Goonies Return. This release is the fifth slot installment, but the Goonies game did branch out into the realm of casino scratch cards and a progressive jackpot version, The Goonies Jackpot King.

In this review, I fully detail this slot release, discuss the performance of the software and the gameplay (which I share firsthand experience with), and highlight the gaming features and bonuses. 

The Goonies Megaways game is an expansion of the second Goonies slot game, Goonies Return. What this essentially means is the game went from a 3x5 gaming layout to one that is now bigger. With this, the game went from using 20 paylines to using a 15,625 ways-to-win spin feature.

The game also brought in a jackpot feature and bonus map to up the adventure. And to be fair, I am a huge fan of this series. This is not only through a love of the film, but when it comes to bonus features, The Goonies series excels in it. I’m talking about multiple bonus games that offer uniquely entertaining ways to win (potentially).

Load The Goonies Megaways slot by Blueprint Gaming inside your online casino, and the first thing to do is set your bet value. Click on the coin stack and select the values that run from $0.10 to $25, which suits your budget. Once set and ready to play, select the spin button to the right of the reels and pray your luck is in. Wins are produced by matching 3 or more of the same symbols across adjacent reels. Now, because this is a Megaways game, each reel can carry 5 different or the same symbols. This is how The Goonies Megaways can formulate 15,625 different ways to win.

The symbols featured in this game include the Never Say Die flag, Sloth, Mouth, Data, and Mikey. The symbols that make up the smaller returns are A, K, Q, J, 10, and 9. The game also includes money symbols that carry cash values. Should they land along with the One-Eyed Willy Collect symbol (on reel 6 only), then that cash value is collected and added to your balance. When this does happen, you will get a notch on the bonus map. 

That’s the basics covered. Now, look at the amazing bonus features. 

• The Map: Each time you collect coins from the slot, a notch appears on the map. Each main stage provides upgrades to the game and ultimately leads you to One-Eyed Willy’s Jackpot, which pays out 10,000 times the spin’s wager. The Upgrades include Dual Collect, Streak Collect, Boost Collect, Multi-X Collect, Fortune Wheel, and Treasure Blitz Super Spins. 
• Hey You Guys feature: Sloth will swing into the game to activate one of several features. This comes with his trademark “Hey You Guys!”. The features include Hidden Treasure, Bonus Boost, Cave In, and Dynamite Blast.
• The Jackpots: There are 4 jackpots: Mega, Major, Minor, and Mini. Their values are dependent on how much you are paying to spin the reels. The higher you bet, the more the values will climb. Subsequently, they will lower as you drop the value of your bet. Mega = 2500x your bet. Major = 200x your bet. Minor = 50x your bet, and Mini = 20x your bet. These are paid out when the symbols land with a Collector symbol. And yes, multiple jackpots can be won at any one time.

I’m a sucker for this series, and when I hear that jaunty theme tune, the volume goes up. My online casino has the other Goonies online slots, so I knew this was going to be available when I heard the news that it dropped. Within 10 spins, I landed the Cave In feature that followed Sloth's random appearance. This causes the slot to shake and some of the symbols to fall off, with new ones dropping in to potentially bring about a win.

I later unlocked the first map upgrade, the Dual Collect feature. This puts the collect symbol on reels 1 and 6. Then, I unlocked the second map feature, Streak Collect, which caused a response for more cash symbols. After this, I unlocked the Boost collect feature on the map.

Before my 50 spins were over, Sloth swung in again to activate the Cave In feature. This prompted a Booster chest to drop in with a $45 value. I ended my 50 spins with my balance ending where I had started. 

All-in-all, it was a very positive and lively experience. That is pretty much what you get with all the Goonies slots.

The RTP rating is 95%, which is understandable considering what this game can potentially pay. That max jackpot is capped at 10,000 times what you wager. If you spend $25 per spin, that returns a payout of $250,000. The volatility of this game comes in at medium/high. So, while there are parts of the game that seem balanced, you can also find spells where wins seem to never land.

For me, the franchise of Goonie games can do no wrong. Now of the three slots, so far released, The Goonies Megaways comes with the fewest bonus rounds. Despite this, what you get is a game showing why Blueprint Gaming is one of the most important developers in the business.
