The wheels on ELK Studios' Toro series keep on rolling, and this time, we have a parody of Thor called Thoro. How incredibly inventive. The Toro series has endured much success, both as a commercial feature and within the industry. The first slot, Wild Toro, won ELK Studios its first EGR Game of the Year award in 2017.
Previous slot releases linked to this series include Gladiatoro, Toro Shogun, Buffalo Toro, Book of Toro, Toro 7s, and Wild Toro 2. Credit where credit is due: the Toro games are good and up there with the best work ELK Studios has ever done. But, are the wheels about to fall off the slot game Thoro, or does the Bull God have what it takes to make this release a thunderous success?
Well, there is only one way to find out. I tackle the Thoro casino game head-on and share my journey of playing with real money. In this slot review, I will detail the design, the rules of play, the software performance, and the settings. At a gaming level, I will also reveal the special features and bonus rounds that come with this game.
To help you grasp what I am talking about, Casinos.com has embedded the official free demo of this slot, which you can freely play with unlimited access. Users of iOS and Android mobiles or tablets can play this game without any downloads required.
The design of most games in the Toro series by ELK Studios is characterized by bold, striking visuals. Thoro continues in this vein, setting the game amidst the cloudy heavens of Asgard. Thoro, as the main character has all the blonde hair you need to convince you that a talking bull can also pass as a god.
The slot has four rows, five reels, and a 178 ways-to-win mechanism. To the right of the reels is the paytable that highlights the number of lightning bolts and their worth. Landing 12 lightning bolts returns a Max Win.
I don’t think it’s a game we particularly needed, but ELK Studios does know how to generate entertainment, and this is what players get.
When you have loaded Thoro up from within one of the best casinos online that you just so happen to find by using Casinos.com, the first step is to decide the value of your bet. Each spin played is a bet placed, so consider what you can afford as an expendable balance.
Select the money stack icon to reveal the betting values that range between $0.20 and $100. With your bet set, press the Spin button to begin playing. To win, you must match three or more symbols across adjacent reels.
The standard symbols for this game include the helmet, the goblet, the pig and dagger, and the horn. There are four rune stone symbols that pay the least in value.
There are then the lightning bolt symbols. The monetary values trigger with four or more symbols landing on the reels. Four give you a x2 payout, five equals a x5 payout, and this goes on up to 12 symbols paying out the max win. However, there is still more to this slot within its special features and bonus game.
Lightning Upgrade: The symbol of Thoro with the Mjolnir (hammer) will upgrade the values of the paytable. It can also increase its own multiplier value.
Thoro Wild: Like all Toro slot games, this is a walking wild symbol that moves to the left of the reels. Each move Thoro makes generates a respin.
Loki Respins: The power of this feature is a respin. You need two or more of the Loki symbols to unlock this power.
Mjolnir: If this hammer symbol lands along with the Thoro Wild symbol, only then can the Mjolnir powers work. Thoro will energize the hammer and draw it closer to him, which causes a respin to play out with each movement of the hammer.
Combo Feature: Land Loki and Thoro symbols together and this unleashes the Thunder Strike feature. In his pursuit of Loki and moving around the reels, Thoro will leave a trail of Wild symbols behind him.
Bifrost Bonus Game: Unlock the bonus game by landing three bonus symbols. You get eight free spins for this feature, which plays in a nighttime mode.
X-iter: This is ELK Studios Buy Bonus feature. It allows players to skip the base game and buy features or bonuses to help them potentially win bigger sums of money. For example, you can pay 10x the value of your bet to unlock the Loki Respins feature. You can also pay 100x your bet to play within the Bifrost free spins bonus game.
I have no beef with the Toro series. I was there from day one and it rightly won the award for Game of the Year. Over the slots that followed, nothing overly dramatic changed, and the progression of each slot was at the time a nice touch. I was looking forward to playing Thoro, but I sense this series is going to go on and on and on, and do we really need that?
I loaded the game and set my bet to pay $1 per spin. I also selected the auto-play feature to play 50 auto-spins. The first spin won me $0.20, and it was a promising start. Six spins later, I landed six bolt symbols and won $5. The game then went through a period of nothing. Only three wins landed in my first twenty spins.
However, three spins later, the Thunder Strike feature landed, and all hell broke loose. Not only did the bonus symbols stick during this feature, but I also struck the Lightning upgrade. As this feature ended, I triggered the Loki Respins.
While the game was going crazy, I noticed that very few wins came about from all of these features. My return was low, and I didn’t win more than $8. The game then went quiet for a period once again, and on my last spin, the Thunder Strike feature landed. The result of this was a $5 win.
The maximum jackpot that can be won is 10,000x your bet. If betting $100 per spin, that’s a max win of $1,000,0000. The RTP is low at 94.00% and the game setting is at medium to high volatility.
Thoro is a game that gave me what I expected, and I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing. It’s a slot that does different things but sticks to familiar structures. I don’t think it’s a game we particularly needed, but ELK Studios does know how to generate entertainment, and this is what players get.
