Trophy Fish is Red Tiger’s take on popular fishing-themed slots such as Fishin’ Frenzy and Big Bass Bonanza. It features similar mechanics where fish symbols have prizes attached to them that work together with a collector (wild).

Trophy Fish has a typical 5x3 layout. The game’s main character is a fisherman who acts as the wild and can appear only in the center position. Apart from substituting for all other symbols, the fisherman wild is also a collector, catching all the fish prize symbols in view.

Fish symbols include regular fish, golden fish that trigger multipliers, trophy fish that award the biggest prizes, and red fish that unlock the free spin round. I’m a big fan of Red Tiger’s modern, minimalistic interface, which makes the gameplay easy to understand. The Spin button is in the bottom right corner, and next to it is the toggle switch for turbo spins.

In the other corner is the Stake button, which opens the menu with stakes ranging from $0.20 to $2. Clicking the Auto button brings up the autoplay settings, where you can set 20, 50, or 100 automated spins and optional loss and win limits.

Every time these symbols appear, they’ll stay locked on the screen for two additional spins. If a new fish symbol lands during those spins, it resets the lock count. The wild symbol (fisherman), only able to land in the center position, “catches” all fish and awards their combined prizes plus any potential multipliers. During the free spins round, the wild is guaranteed to appear on every spin.

I had a pretty good time with the Trophy Fish slot and was lucky to bag in more than $200 during my session. I quite liked the game’s pace, including the ability to control the speed.

Unlike most other slots, Trophy Fish's appeal lies in the fact that you don't have to wait for the free spins round to win big. I only triggered the free spins game once, and even though I got a substantial win from it, I managed to score a few bigger wins during the base game.

Every spin comes with a chance to land fish symbols with instant prizes, wilds, multipliers (golden fish), trophy fish, and even jackpots. Once you land any fish symbols, they stay locked for two additional spins, resetting the counter if more of them appear.

If the wild symbols land during those spins, you get to collect the prizes. This happened to me on a few occasions, and I was winning $20, $30, $50, or more, just off my $2 wager.

I never managed to “catch” one of the elusive trophy fish, which offer the biggest rewards apart from the jackpots. Nevertheless, my profits exceeded $200, and I quit before a losing streak threatened to deplete my balance.

Trophy Fish has an RTP of 95.71%. The game’s max payout is 27,109x, and the slot is considered to be highly volatile.

I enjoyed my time with Trophy Fish quite a bit, and not only because I won over $200. I loved the game’s pace, original features, and the fact that you can win big in the base game rather than waiting for a rare bonus round.

On the other hand, the game does have a low max bet limit, which may make high rollers look for alternatives. That said, there’s no shortage of fishing-themed slots on the market right now.
