May 2 is World Password Day, an initiative pushed by Intel Security to encourage better password protocols. It's not the only day of its kind, with National Security Day arriving on November 30th. National Security Day was first coined back in back in 1988. Computers were not commonplace back then, but nowadays, it’s not uncommon for households to have multiple computers alongside smartphones and tablets. Communication is definitely a lot easier than it used to be, but with these technological advancements, we have additional privacy and security concerns.
And while we now have easy access to the tools for communication, there are just as many, if not more, platforms to do it on. From Facebook to Snapchat to a good old-fashioned email, the possibilities for chatting with friends and family are plentiful. However, with new password measures seemingly being added by the day – you know, the really annoying stuff like having to add a special character and 25 numbers – it can be easy to forget your security details, especially with so many different things to log in to.
The UK is no exception to this. 84.4% of the population have an active social media presence across the nation as of January 2023, equating to 57.1 million users according to Statista.. With that in mind, our research and analytics team took a break from casino sites and decided it would be an appropriate time to find out which platforms – including social media and entertainment sites like Netflix and Spotify – cause Brits the most issues when it comes to remembering their passwords.
*The numbers below indicate average monthly searches across a host of keyword phrases available to view at the bottom of this article.
Overall, people in the UK forget their Apple ID password far more than any other platform, with an overall search score of 20,560 people a month on average searching how to reset their password (or associated phrases), more than double any other login.
Google/Gmail was second and followed closely by Instagram, which was the social media site that caused the most issues for UK citizens.
Facebook and Snapchat were next in line in terms of social media sites, with very few people having issues accessing their TikTok accounts, according to the data.
Other platforms that UK natives struggle with are Netflix (3,540 monthly searches) and Spotify (2,870 monthly searches). YouTube and Hotmail presented relatively low numbers on a monthly basis.
Choosing a password these days can be a bit of a daunting task, and it's important to remember when signing up to an online casino site, you're password needs to be secure because inside, you will be storing some of your own real money to play with (and hopefully, some money you've won).
When choosing a password for the online casino of your choice, we recommend choosing some completely random, long, and with special characters for maximum security.
Hackers do target casinos, as they know it's a place where people share sensitive bank info - so it's particularly important to ensure your password isn't guessable.
Online casinos protect your password, only storing a hash version, to keep you safe from any potential hacks. Modern encryption systems use secure socket layer (SSL) or transport layer security (TLS) protocols to encode data stored in their databases.
We used Semrush search volume data to measure keyword phrases relating to forgetting password details for specific platforms. The data and associated keywords can be found in the tables below.
