Ontario’s 'Cleanest' and 'Dirtiest' Casinos, Ranked

What’s worse than losing in a casino? Losing in a dirty casino! So, which casinos in Ontario are absolutely filthy, and which could you eat off the floor of? We went on a mission to find out.

Have you ever seen TV shows where people go around hotels to check for mold stains and hairs on the sheets? Well, we couldn’t exactly do that (our desk jobs are far too important), so we did the next best thing: we headed to Tripadvisor’s guest reviews.

We scoured the comment section for certain keywords like “dirty,” “messy,” and “grimy.” Based on the number of mentions, we were able to rank the casinos on our (totally unpatented) Casinos.com Dirtiness Scale.

Here's how we ranked Ontario casinos:

Ontario, according to Tripadvisor reviews, is Great Canadian Casino Resort, which got 36 keyword mentions and a rating of 17.14% on the scale. Casino got the same unfortunate ranking on our 'dirtiest casino in Canada' list.

18 reviews called this place out as being “dirty,” which didn’t sound promising to us at all. One review said, “This casino smells like an armpit. It is crowded and dirty, and people are super rude,” while another lamented being bitten by what might have been fleas after a visit to the restroom.

Pickering Casino Resort didn’t do particularly well either, receiving a rating of 10.14%. The most common keywords here were “filthy” and “filth.” 😔

We found one particularly damning review, which said, “Never again will they see a dime from me. Filthy areas not fit for a dog, staff yelling at customers (not just me, btw), machines malfunctioning, ticket redemption all not working for hours, causing ridiculous delays and lineups…what a horrible experience it was.”

Top 5 Dirtiest Casinos in Ontario

We’d really expect better from a place with over 2,500 slots and almost 100 live dealer tables!

The third 'dirtiest' casino on the list actually got a reasonably decent rating of 5.98%Rideau Carleton Raceway & Casino had 15 keyword mentions out of just over 250 reviews.

Said one unhappy reviewer, “Tables and chairs were only marginally better than a food court or high school cafeteria. Floors were dirty, carpets stained, and shards of glass were scattered on the ground. Food was disgusting, flavorless, low quality, and there was not a lot of variety.”

Someone else also called it “a stain on Ottawa,” so there’s that.

But what about the opposite end of the scale? Were there any Ontario casinos that were really clean? The answer is yes.

Gateway Casinos Sault Ste. Marie got a really impressive rating of just 0.43%, which means that according to our research, it’s the cleanest casino in Ontario. Only one person mentioned a keyword—“smelly.“

In fact, several reviews actually commented on how clean the casino and the rooms were. Isn’t that nice?

With a rating of 1.52%Casino Niagara Falls got just 15 keyword mentions out of almost 1,000 reviews. Not too bad! “Lovely casino. Very clean and safe. Lots of diverse food choices and lots of fun things to do,” said one review.

Finally, Niagara Fallsview Casino had a huge amount of reviews (over 4,000) but only 73 keyword mentions, resulting in a rating of 1.73%

Our personal favorite review was the one that said, “Last time I ordered a margarita and it didn't even have a salt rim and tasted exactly like one would expect dirty mop water to taste,” but many people also praised the casino for not smelling like smoke.

Decide for yourself, folks—it's all about priorities.

Methodology

Casinos.com utilized Tripadvisor reviews to do an in-depth analysis of phrases associated with being dirty to determine the Ontario casino that is the 'cleanest' and 'dirtiest.'
