The Gambling AML & FinCrime Alliance (GAFA) is a new way to improve compliance and fight financial crime in the global gambling industry.
It is now officially open for professionals, practitioners, and fans to join a lively community working to improve anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorism financing (CTF), fraud, and other FinCrime projects in the gambling industry. Given the rapid growth of online casinos, the need for stronger AML frameworks is more pressing than ever.
Designed as a collaborative space, GAFA aims to bring together experts and thought leaders from various backgrounds to promote discussion, share knowledge, and contribute to best practices surrounding AML and financial crime prevention.
With membership being free and accessible—even to those currently retired, seeking employment, or entering the field—GAFA encourages inclusivity, allowing a diverse range of voices to participate in critical conversations impacting the industry.
"By joining GAFA, you will become part of a collaborative, global network committed to strengthening compliance and navigating the ever-evolving risks associated with money laundering and financial crime in the gambling sector," stated Josie Preston, the founder of Gambling AML & FinCrime Alliance. Josie recently attended ICE 2025 in Barcelona, where she captured key moments from the world’s largest gaming exhibition.
"Our community is focused on fostering partnerships and sharing experiences to protect the industry from criminal exploitation and to improve industry standards and practices.”
The alliance also seeks to address the growing regulatory challenges faced by the gambling industry, which has been increasingly scrutinized for AML and financial crime risks recently. By harnessing the collective expertise of its members, GAFA aims to disrupt outdated practices and facilitate innovative solutions to emerging threats.
Membership in the alliance provides a wealth of opportunities for professional development and networking. Members can engage in exclusive events, both in-person and virtual, that promote interaction among peers, industry leaders, and subject matter experts.
GAFA will also deliver a quarterly magazine featuring industry insights and contributions from its members, ensuring individuals stay informed on the latest trends and regulations.
Additional benefits include opportunities to participate in working groups aimed at crafting actionable strategies for effective AML practices, as well as access to webinars and workshops led by renowned experts in the field.
The launch of the Gambling AML & FinCrime Alliance represents a significant step toward creating a more robust framework for combating financial crime in the casino industry.
As the gambling landscape continues to evolve, GAFA is poised to become a vital resource for industry stakeholders eager to improve their compliance efforts and protect against criminal exploitation.
Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
