Top Canadian Casinos with the Friendliest Staff

Research suggests that over 135,000 people in Canada are employed by the casino industry, and it makes sense when you think about it—with almost 90 land-based casinos located all over the country, they all need hotel staff, restaurant staff, dealers, cleaners, and a whole lot of other roles. The Casino de Montréal alone employs over 2,800 staff. 

Staff are a major factor in any casino experience. From the concierge to the servers, staff members can help add a touch of luxury to your overall experience—or they can really ruin things for you. When you’re deciding where you want to sleep, dine, or gamble, the last thing you want to do is run into unfriendly staff. 

But how can you tell exactly which casinos have the best staff? We were wondering that too, and we thought the best possible solution was to head for Tripadvisor and see what customers are saying. We looked for mentions of certain keywords like "friendly," "obliging," and "helpful," and we ranked the casinos depending on the number of reviews using one or more of those keywords.

Three casinos came out as very clear frontrunners here: Living Sky Casino, Casino of the Rockies, and Casino Moose Jaw.

Living Sky Casino got 72.73% on our scale, which is one of the highest numbers we’ve seen in any of our research into Canadian casinos. Located in Saskatchewan, this casino has multiple dining options, and it even hosts weddings. There are over 200 slots, including progressive jackpots, so you might just get really lucky. 

“Staff were very friendly. Small casino but enough games for a few hours of fun. Would return again for sure.” - good enough for us!

Second up, Casino of the Rockies got 71.90%, with 87 keyword mentions out of 121 reviews. Most of the keyword mentions were “helpful” or "friendly," and according to one review, “Roomy and clean with friendly, helpful staff, the casino provided us with a nice break after a long drive. Good variety of machines, not crowded. All in all, a nice little casino.”

Right behind Casino of the Rockies, Casino Moose Jaw got 71.89%, with 202 out of 281 reviews mentioning one of our keywords. We were impressed to see that 88 reviews used the word "friendly," and one even said staff were “eager to help." The review in question said, “It's clean and easily accessible. The slots are modern and well taken care of. The staff seemed eager to help when needed.” 

Located in Moose Jaw, SK, this casino has been around since 2002, and not only does it have a luxurious hotel with 181 rooms, but it also features a geothermal mineral water pool. There’s so much going on at this casino that the great staff are just the cherry on top. 

We’re sad to say that some casinos also fared pretty badly on our Best Staff Scale. Right at the bottom of the list, we have Casino de Charlevoix, which received just 7.93%. There were absolutely no mentions of "obliging," "thoughtful," or "accommodating," but at least a few people mentioned the word "friendly." Even though the staff weren’t rated particularly well, Casino de Charlevoix is known as one of Quebec’s premier casinos, and we’d highly recommend you Google it to see just how beautiful the setting is. 

Second from the bottom was Diamond Tooth Gerties Gambling Hall. This one got 12.90% on our scale, but we have to admit we were more interested in finding out exactly who Diamond Tooth Gertie is. Said one unhappy customer, “I have to say the show was great but the service from the staff was less than zero!” Do you hear that? Less than zero! (Just FYI, if you’re as curious as we were, Diamond Tooth Gertie is a dancehall girl from the days of old, who did in fact have a diamond between her teeth.)

The third worst was Casino de Montreal, even though the rating of 16.62% wasn’t actually that bad. 67 people used the word "friendly," and 26 said staff were helpful, but we did see a few reviews that weren’t so complimentary. “Arrogant pit bosses” and “miserable dealers” were mentioned as some of the gripes here, and that certainly doesn’t bode well for a good gambling experience.

Methodology 

Casinos.com utilized Tripadvisor reviews to do an in-depth analysis of phrases associated with staff friendliness to determine the best staff at casinos in Canada. We calculated the percentage of mentions in the total Tripadvisor reviews.

Keywords tracked: friendly, helpful, obliging, friendly, accommodating, thoughtful, considerate, eager to help
