While gambling has existed in some form for many generations, it was only officially legalized in the province of Quebec in 1985, with the advent of sports betting. It makes sense then that casinos were the next thing to come to the table, with two of them being opened in the province in 1992.
Nowadays gamblers in Quebec also have access to the best online casinos, but many people still enjoy the extra thrill and other entertainment options that are available at land-based casinos. And if you happen to get lucky enough to bag a win, that’s even better.
First, it’s important to say that there are only four casinos in the province of Quebec that are regulated by the official body, Société des casinos du Québec. This is far fewer compared to Ontario casinos or BC, for example. For that reason, you don’t have a whole lot of choice, so you’ll definitely want to make sure that you have a decent chance of winning before you decide to visit any of these casinos.
We looked at three of the casinos in the province to evaluate them based on a very scientific scale that the Casinos.com team definitely didn’t just make up. We looked at Tripadvisor reviews and added up the number of times certain keywords were mentioned, like "lucky," "winner," and "profit." Whichever casino got the most keyword mentions was ranked at the top of the list.
Just to build the suspense a little, here are the three casinos we assessed:
So that we’re not revealing all the secrets immediately, we’ll do this in reverse order. The least lucky casino in the province of Quebec is Casino de Charlevoix, getting just 3.87% on our Luck Scale, with 20 keyword mentions out of 517 reviews. Only one person used the word "lucky," and there were absolutely no mentions of “winner” or "success."
The casino has lots of slots, table games, and sports betting terminals, but what really sets it apart is that it’s in a literal castle. Okay, maybe not a literal castle, but the building is gorgeous, and if I get to gamble in that kind of setting, I’m not actually too fussed about whether or not I win.
Said one review, “Must admit that I don’t normally frequent casinos and this experience did nothing to convince me that I should."
Okay, but that begs the question of why did you go in the first place?
Moving on. Casino de Mont-Tremblant did quite a bit better, with a rating of 9.00%. Encouragingly, 21 people used the word "won," and three even mentioned a casino bonus. From Sunday brunch to live music and DJs, there’s plenty going on at this casino, even if you don’t get lucky enough to bag a win on one of the slots or table games.
And based on the photos we saw on their website, it’s definitely worth a visit in winter to take in the snowy landscape views from the restaurant. “I won $800 while I was there on one of their machines. I would recommend a visit if you're looking for something fun to do in Tremblant” definitely sounds promising.
And now—drumroll, please—we can officially report that the luckiest casino in the province of Quebec is Casino de Montreal. This one received 13.46% on our scale, with 130 keyword mentions out of 966 reviews. A notable 45 people mentioned the word "won," and there were even two mentions of “hand pay." That certainly sounds like a place we’d like to visit. This casino is located within the city of Montreal, and it features cabaret shows, bars, and big progressive jackpots in addition to the usual table games and slots.
According to one review, “My family and I were there one afternoon to check it out. We all took money to gamble but only one of us came back a true winner. While the winner was winning more and more, the rest of us were at the bar having cocktails, and the servers were excellent. Service Súperb. Food is very good."
Well, if you can’t win, there are few better things to do than enjoy a couple of cocktails.
Casinos.com utilized Tripadvisor reviews to do an in-depth analysis of phrases associated with luck to determine the luckiest casino in Quebec. We calculated the percentage of mentions in the total Tripadvisor reviews.
