Global Gaming Women (GGW) hosted a highly successful event at the iconic Rock Hotel to mark International Women’s Day on Monday, March 10.

Despite challenging weather conditions, the evening saw an impressive turnout. Originally capped at 70 attendees, the event welcomed 74 guests—and a total of 81 participants when including the esteemed panellists, the keynote speaker, and the dedicated gin tasting team from Spirit of the Rock.

As women continue to make strides in the gaming industry, events like these highlight the growing influence of female leaders in both land-based and online casinos.

Gibraltar’s Commissioner for Gambling Gave Keynote Speech

To make the venue accessible, GGW arranged shuttle buses from town to the Rock Hotel, ensuring that even in wet and windy conditions, guests could arrive comfortably and on time. The effort paid off, with an engaged audience ready for an inspiring evening.

The event officially opened at 5:45 PM with a welcome address, introducing GGW’s mission and extending an invitation for attendees to get involved.

The presentation was followed by a keynote speech from Andrew Lyman, Gibraltar’s Commissioner for Gambling, who shared his personal experiences in mentoring women within the gaming sector and voiced his continued support for female professionals in Gibraltar’s gaming industry.

Panel Discussion Covered Toxic Workplace Cultures

A thought-provoking panel discussion commenced, featuring Marion Ryan (Managing Director, Tombola) and Davnet Reid (Managing Director, Sky Gaming).

The panel was expertly moderated by Denise Matthews, a serial entrepreneur and highly respected figure in Gibraltar’s business community—a region renowned for its vibrant gaming scene, often highlighted among top casino destinations.

The conversation covered a wide range of topics, including overcoming imposter syndrome, navigating toxic workplace cultures, the importance of male allyship, and personal journeys of self-development and success.

While the panel officially concluded at 6:55 PM, audience engagement was so high that the Q&A session extended until 8:00 PM, only pausing to allow for dinner service to begin.

Event Topped off With Gin Tasting

The evening then transitioned to a spirited gin tasting, courtesy of Spirit of the Rock. In honour of the event’s sponsor, guests enjoyed a signature "Flutter" cocktail—a refreshing mix of pink gin, prosecco, and fresh strawberry. Shuttle buses departed at 9:15 PM, with the final guests leaving the venue by 10:30 PM.

Following the event, GGW has received an outpouring of positive feedback through emails, text messages, and LinkedIn, with attendees praising the evening as an invaluable and inspiring experience.

The event firmly established GGW as a key player in Gibraltar’s professional landscape, shining a spotlight on the importance of empowering women in gaming.

I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
