If someone was to ask you to name a great gambling destination, I'm very confident few would offer Saskatchewan as an answer.

However, Saskatchewan is home to a number of very good casino resorts, so it is well worth checking out.

Saskatchewan Land Based Casino Operators

Saskatchewan is home to several casino resorts, but many of them are controlled by two main operators. Here is a quick summary of them.

  • Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA): A string of First-Nation tribal casinos in Saskatchewan. They operate with First Nation communities in mind, which is where much of their revenue ends up.
  • Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation (SGC): Fewer casinos than SIGA, and perhaps aimed a little more directly at tourists.

Saskatchewan Casino Resorts

The province probably has a greater number of casino resorts than many realise, including:

  • Dakota Dunes Casino (near Saskatoon): One of the largest and most popular casinos in the entire province.
  • Living Sky Casino (Swift Current): One of the major gambling locations in the southwestern region of Saskatchewan.
  • Gold Eagle Casino (North Battleford): A thriving property featuring live entertainment and events, as well as a good-sized casino.
  • Northern Lights Casino (Prince Albert): A major entertainment hub in northern Saskatchewan.
  • Bear Claw Casino (Carlyle): A smaller, more intimate casino than most but one that brings plenty of unique charm.
  • Painted Hand Casino (Yorkton): Located in the eastern part of the province and one of the most complete casinos Saskatchewan can boast.
  • Casino Regina (Regina): Located in a historic train station in downtown Regina and one of the largest casinos in Saskatchewan.
  • Casino Moose Jaw (Moose Jaw): Another SGC property and one that is smaller than Casino Regina but offers a similar gambling experience with some added amenities for tourists,

More Than Gambling

While Saskatchewan is a great destination for gambling, it has an awful lot more than just casino resorts to offer.

  • Diverse geography: Saskatchewan is landlocked between Alberta, Manitoba, Montana and North Dakota, but that comes with a range of great natural diversity. There are prairies to the south, forests in the north, lakes, rivers, and grasslands.
  • National Parks: The province contains two different national parks - Grasslands and Prince Albert.
  • Festivals: There are various annual festivals such as the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival (Saskatoon), the Regina Folk Festival, and the Festival of Words (Moose Jaw).
  • Warm summers: Although Saskatchewan is known for very cold winters of up to -30C, summers are very welcoming and get as warm as 25-30C.

Important Considerations

The legal gambling age in Saskatchewan is 19, and most casinos will honour that. However, bear in mind that casinos can set their own entry policies, so it's worth checking before you set off.
