You can always rely on Yggdrasil to release a memorable game-design, and they have done it once again with Attack of the Zombees WildEnergy. The first thing that won me over about the slot was its quirky characters, game set-up, and overall design. 

An enhanced game grid sits in the middle of an old graveyard while a zombie beekeeper attempts to keep the hoards of brain-eating bees at bay. Instead of opting for a more horror-based approach, this is all brought to life with a quirky design and some video-game-style animations. 

Speaking of video games, the slot’s soundtrack feels like it could have been ripped straight from an old-school PS1 arcade game, with its upbeat and mischievous tone buzzing away as you spin the reels. 

The Attack of the Zombees WildEnergy slot uses an enhanced 8x8 game grid. You won’t find any traditional paylines here, with the developer opting to use the cluster-pay mechanic. Wins are formed when players land symbols in a cluster of five or more anywhere on the grid. 

I wasn’t surprised to discover that the game also uses a Cascade mechanic after a win. Winning symbols are removed, and new ones fall from above. This will continue to happen as long as you hit more clusters. 

The first feature I encountered in Attack of the Zombees WildEnergy is the progressive multiplier that accompanies the Cascade mechanic. On each Tumble, the multiplier, which is displayed to the left of the reels, increases by one. The multiplier is applied to all wins and resets when a Cascade finishes. 

The titular Wild Energy bonus is a Wild symbol that can land anywhere on the reels. It can display up to five lives, with the number of lives dictating how many Cascades it remains on the reels for. Once the count hits zero, it disappears. 

There is also the Hive feature, which sees four Wild Energy symbols added to a position of four on the grid. The Hive remains active until the end of a Cascade sequence. 

The other symbol to keep your eyes peeled for is the Bonus symbol, which depicts a beekeeper. Landing three will reward seven spins. Before the round starts, players have a chance to gamble their spins to reach up to fifteen. 

During the round, Wild Energy symbols can land on the grid, and there is also the possibility of a Super Hive, which sees a Hive added to the center four positions on the grid. You can also trigger the Super Queen Wild, which is a 4x4 Wild symbol. 

You can also activate the buy bonus feature. Seven spins for 80x your stake or seven super spins, which guarantee a Hive and a Super Queen Wild on every spin for 350x, are available. 

I was instantly won over by the Attack of the Zombees theme and design, so I had high hopes for the gameplay and, for the most part, it delivered. I tested the game in demo mode before playing it for real money and found the Scatter Pay combined with the Wild Energy feature to be highly engaging. 

As such, I settled on taking the game for a spin for real money. The betting range of $0.20 - $100 gave me plenty of options, but given the low RTP of the slot, I settled on playing with a lower amount: $0.40. My instincts on this were definitely correct, with the game taking a very long time to trigger any of the bonus features. I did, however, find that when the Cascades started coming, the progressive multiplier was really useful. 

The bonus feature is the key to unlocking the big wins in the game though. The combination of the Hive, Free Spins, and Cascades left me with some huge wins, with the biggest total I took from the bonuses off a $0.40 stake being $48, which is a significant return for the price. 

Overall, I really enjoyed my experience playing Attack of the Zombees WildEnergy. However, I found the slot to be a little more volatile than expected and did have to wait for long periods between wins. 

Unfortunately, like a lot of slots released under the Yggdrasil umbrella, Attack of the Zombees WildEnergy is let down by a low RTP, with the score coming in at 94%. This is significantly lower than average and is going to put a lot of players off. This is unfortunate, with the game being highly enjoyable. Yggdrasil has given it a low-medium volatility rating, though, in my experience, it is definitely more on the medium end of things. The maximum win is a solid 10,000x your stake. 

I found Attack of the Zombees WildEnergy to be a really quirky and engaging slot. The game provides buckets of charm and some engaging gameplay. The emphasis on Wilds works really well, and the game’s bonus rounds are thrilling once they get started. 

Of course, the biggest issue some players will have with the game is the low RTP, which is definitely a mark in the cons column. However, if you can overlook this, there is plenty of fun to be had, and I am more than happy to recommend taking Attack of the Zombees WildEnergy for a spin in the best casinos online.
