Norse mythology slots are always a fun ride, at least for me. I’m a big fan of the mythology and Thor – both in books and Marvel comics. There have been plenty of great Norse slots in the past, but Infinity Dragon aims to dethrone them all with the Gates of Asgard Power Combo. 

The medium volatile slot game has 40 fixed paylines and several special features. These include expanding wilds, the Power Combo bonus, and a Link & Win bonus round. It’s not exactly common for Norse slots to have that many features, and that’s what makes this one special.

As expected, it stars all the major figures from this mythology, including Thor and the Allfather Odin. There’s also a Valknut, three interlocking triangles, which plays a big role in the bonus round. While it’s definitely loaded with features, the slot’s straightforward gameplay and simple mechanics make it easy to play.

The slot’s layout and design are pretty much straightforward. This is a 5x3 slot game based on the ancient Norse gods. The reels are set against a sci-fi landscape that may be showing Valhalla. Embers are going up from both sides of the reels, as well as some dusty chests and warrior statues on the left and right.

As a Norse mythology slot, the symbols include heroes such as Thor, Odin, and what’s possibly Frigga. You’ll also see a ring imbued with magical runes, Thor’s hammer, and a shield and sword set in stone. The Valknut is a special symbol, while the wilds show Odin’s trusty ravens.

The great visuals are accompanied by excellent sound effects and an epic soundtrack that sounds even better.

To set out on this adventure, you will first need to place a bet. Choose between 20c and $25 per spin and hit the golden spin button in the middle. The reels will turn with a nice animation as the action begins. Odin and Thor are the highest-paying symbols together with the wild. Yggdrasil—or the tree of life—is the game’s scatter.

The key to landing big wins in the Gates of Asgard Power Combo slot is the scatter. A colored Yggdrasil landing on the reels reveals one of the three power combo scatters active for the duration of the Link & Win bonus. These are indicated above the reels and include:

• Expanding reels: if the blue scatter triggers the Hold & Win bonus, it plays out on 5x5 expanded reels.
• Random multiplier: triggered by purple scatters and applies multipliers up to x5 on each respin.

The Link & Win bonus round is triggered by three coins on the reels. It starts in the usual way – with three respins, with only coins and jackpot coins landing on the reels. In order to hit the highest prize, you will need to fill all positions on the screen.

There’s another bonus round called Viking Valor, which comes in addition to the Hold & Win respins. It is triggered by the Viking warrior. Whenever one lands, it is added to the bonus meter, which might trigger this feature. You get a single free spin but with a much higher chance to trigger the Link & Win bonus or higher cash prizes.

The bonus buy slots feature this time around is pretty far out. There are several options to pick from. The cheapest one is 36.70x the bet for a random multiplier in the Link & Win bonus. If you pay the maximum of 164.20x, you get the same bonus round with all the Power Combo features.

I can honestly say that Gates of Asgard Power Combo is incredibly fun to play. The Power Combo features trigger pretty often, as does the Hold & Win bonus round, despite the high volatility. I managed to trigger the bonus twice, having plenty of luck the first time. The second was not that productive, but I still hit a few wins.

I was lucky enough to hit the Major jackpot worth 250x. The second time around, I hit decent wins thanks to the multipliers, but not as large as the jackpot. I had to pay to test the expanding reels feature, and it provided some nice wins, too. I’m only disappointed that I didn’t trigger the Viking Valor feature, which sounds like one chance to win. In my opinion, the developer should have at least included it in the bonus buy feature.

Gates of Asgard Power Combo has an RTP of 96.20%, ideal for a highly volatile slot. The maximum possible payout is 10,525x the bet.

Gates of Asgard Power Combo was one heck of a ride. The power combos truly make a difference when you get to the bonus round, and the Viking Valor bonus adds another layer of entertainment. It may be missing a free spin round, but in my experience, the specials are much better than that.
