The Land of the Free slot by Nolimit City pays homage to the poor white trash of America because they are anything but free. It is not often that you come across a slot machine that is of its time and, with it, satirizing the status quo. The last successful game to pull this off and be featured within major online casinos was Rocket Men by Red Tiger Gaming. This slot poked fun at the then-serving President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The design of Land of the Free is everything that is ironic about America, what it stands for, and how it is represented. So much so that it reaches into the desperate and comical. Either too much thought went into this game to make it genius or some lucky developers put pieces together and pulled it off.

The full title of this game is actually Land of the Free: Home of the Wild. The slot is set in the backdrop of mountains, woodlands, and a stream. You have a Private Property No Trespassing sign with an American Eagle above it. The slot is embedded into the trailer. The layout is a 4x5 grid, and the last fifth reel is covered by the American Flag. 

The lower-value symbols come with a chicken wire mesh behind them. These include the Bible, a bag labeled Not Drugs, Jerry Can, soft drinks, and West Virginia Chewing Gum, which is a Condom.

The higher scoring symbols are the white trash family that lives in the trailer. They are called the Langford family. You have Mama, Eski Moe, Cletus, Trailer Swift, and A$$man, which is a nod to the Kramer character in the Seinfeld TV series.  

The music used for Land of the Free lays thick into the American psyche with actually cool rock grooves, guitar melodies, and lyrics that repeat, “I wanna start a war”. It’s all very Iggy Pop. But before this all happens, you are told to “Have a nice day” by an aged male voice that isn’t all too cognitively there. No prizes for guessing who the target of that joke is. (Note: the intro does change, and there is also a radio presenter introducing the game).

Still, no spin of a reel has been played, and I firmly believe this is one of the greatest online slot machines ever designed. It has balls, and for an 18+ market, it’s about time.

Benzo Bear: A half-stacked Bear in view converts 3 to 8 symbols into a Wild. A full Bear (in the Submerged Spins feature only) converts all submerged symbols into Wilds.

Mr Split and Chainsaw: Mr Split appears in reel 5 only. If he appears, he will chainsaw all symbols in half to double them, thus increasing the Ways to Win. In the Tsunami and Submerges Spins feature, Mr Split will double all submerged symbols. The Chainsaw itself can be activated to further split a split symbol.

Rubber Ducks: Appearing in the Tsunami and Submerged Spins, a rubber duck can award 2 more free spins. Each duck appearing will also raise the water level by a row in Tsunami Spins. 

Titan Spin (a.k.a Idiot Spin): If the submarine shows, you will have a mini-game to play. The sub comes with 3 windows in which you want 1, 2, or 3 of the presidents to appear. I saw the design of Land of the Free long before its release and was excited to see what Nolimit City would pull off. This is a developer that very rarely puts a foot wrong with their games, and they are always on that line of bad taste and being alternative.

For me, Nolimit City has made a landmark game. The design is incredible, the concept has meaning, and it bleeds throughout the gaming features. You get a perfect package of style and performance.

I played the demo first for about 50 spins, but I loved it so much that I went in with real money at my casino and spun 100 spins at $2 per spin. Within 2 spins, I hit the Pearly Gate feature but lucked out. I also hit 12 Tsunami Spins and won big. Now, I wasn’t prepared for the music that plays on a big win or the Family Book reveal, but wow, this game does not disappoint. I ended the round with $150.80 and 70 spins remaining.

To cut a long story short, my experience was 10 out of 10.
