I believe it’s a bit sad to say that the slot doesn’t have as many magic features as one could hope for. There’s a prize ladder along with moon (money) symbols and a Hold & Respin feature. All three work great, but they’re not among the most innovative.

Moon Spell looks and feels pretty sharp to play. As usual with Red Tiger slot games, the graphics and animations are great, and the slot looks charming on all devices. The symbols are all symbolic. Many of them are associated with magic and witches, including the black cat, a full moon, a book of spells, and a talisman.

A fitting soundtrack can be heard in the background. The sound effects are right on point, picking up the pace when you hit consecutive wins or any of the money symbols.

The Moon Spell online slot game is easy to play. You will need to choose a bet first before you hit the spin button. Bets range from 10c to $20 per spin, so it’s suitable for any kind of player. I must say that the base game is standard – very much bread-and-butter. You need three or more symbols for a win, with wilds stepping in to complete winning combos. They also pay up to 1,000 if you’re lucky to land five on a line.

The only special feature in the Moon Spell slot game is the Hold & Win feature. We’ll talk more about it later, but it’s important to mention that it involves the Moon symbols. You need a specific number of these symbols to collect their prizes or trigger the Hold & Win bonus. 

Moons can land in any position, and they carry values from 0.5x to 100x the bet. Landing three to four Moon symbols awards their combined value. Land more, and you trigger the all-important bonus.

You need five or more Moon symbols to trigger the Hold & Win bonus. It’s not as innovative as I hoped for, as it follows traditional Hold & Win-like features. The bonus round starts with three respins. All triggering Moons are now sticky on the reels, while the other positions go for a respin.

Each new Moon that lands resets the respins count to three. The round ends when you run out of respins or all grid positions have been filled with Moons. The combined value of all Moons is awarded at the end of the feature.

Right above the reels, you can see a prize ladder with moons and cash rewards. Land ten or more Moon symbols to win a prize according to the ladder. It comes in addition to the Moon symbols and their values. Ten moons pay 50x the bet, while the maximum of 15 Moons pays a solid 5,000x.

You’ll need to wait for the bonus trigger to try the Hold & Spin feature as there’s no bonus buy option.

Moon Spell was a fun slot, if a bit too predictive for my taste. It doesn’t bring anything new to the Hold & Win bonus, so it can be a bit boring. I started my adventure with a bet of $1 and saved for a few small Moon wins. The base game wasn’t impressive.

Triggering the bonus feature took around 25 spins, which was faster than I hoped. The slot bonus was way more productive than the base game thanks to constant retriggers. In the end, I walked away with a 64x prize which was solid as I didn’t spend that much getting there.

Moon Spell is a medium volatile slot game with an RTP of 95.76%, a typical figure for most Red Tiger slots. The maximum win is set at 5,224x the bet.

Moon Spell doesn’t manage to conjure anything innovative to get under the skin of most players. Sure, it has its charms, but the overused Hold & Win feature is a case of being there and done that. It simply adds nothing to the feature itself and/or the magic genre, so you might as well skip it.
