In my review of Rainbow Ryan 2, I look at the new features of this game, analyzing the software, in-play features, bonuses, and potential payouts. Will this new release be a better game than the first?

Rainbow Ryan is a rockstar leprechaun, and just like in the first Rainbow Ryan game, he returns with his top hat, sunglasses, mutton chops, and guitar. The slot design keeps all the expected musical themes. However, Rainbow Ryan 2 now takes place inside an Irish bar during St Patrick's Day celebrations. 

The slot layout comes with the same 4 x 6 grid as the first game. Above the reels, you have the powerbar, and you can see that Rainbow Ryan 2 comes with four jackpot values: Mini, Minor, Major, and Maxi.

Rainbow Ryan is an animated character who will play on stage, move about, do a little jig, and entertain when playing. The gaming symbols that feature in this game include the Pot of Gold Wild symbol, Ryan Brew (keg), Top Hat, Ryan Whiskey Bottle, and Beer. With a game that is set up without paylines, wins are simply formed by landing the same symbols across adjacent reels. Wins will begin by matching three or more—the more matching symbols you have on the same reel, the greater the win multiplies. 

Now, during play, a feature called Synched Reels can be triggered. This means that both reels will land the same symbols to help form wins. You may also trigger the Encore feature with any spin. This feature is essentially a free spin or respin that also comes with a guaranteed trigger of the Synched Reels feature. You might even re-trigger the whole Encore feature again. 

Now, that’s not all, and if, like me, you are an absolute sucker for features, then Rainbow Ryan 2 continues to provide them. There is a feature called Lounder, which happens after a win. This is a multiplier feature that helps boost winnings. 

Before you dive into this game, because you are going to want to with just how action-packed it is, make sure you first adjust the cost settings. When you load the game, be it in its demo mode or real money format, set the bet price per spin. Click on the coin stack icon and choose your wager per spin, which ranges from $0.10 to $10. 

Once you have set your bet, press the large spin button to begin playing. You can opt for the autoplay version, which can play several or an infinite number of spins. You can also set stop limits so you don’t overspend. 

Rainbow Ryan 2 comes with a free spins bonus feature; with this, you get the free spins symbol. You will unlock the special round of play by landing three or more of these bonus symbols. Now, depending on how many you land determines how many free spins you will be awarded.

Having played the original Rainbow Ryan slot game when it launched in 2017 and thinking it was a pretty good game, I was excited to see this follow-up drop. I have to say, I was a little surprised, too, because of how long it took Yggdrasil to decide on a second game. Now, the developer has many fans, but for me, Yggdrasil does have me sitting on the fence. Some of their games can be good, some can be poor, and they just never seem to make a casino game that is innovatively special or comes with the wow factor. 

As is my custom approach with slot games, I set my bet to $2 per spin and played 50 spins. It’s nice to see a game that is packed with features, but it’s even better when the developer isn’t shy about making them appear. The Synched Reels seemed to happen 90% of the time the reels spun. I also picked up the x2 Louder feature several times over. This is as far as my luck went, unable to trigger any bonus round and ended in the red.

The maximum you can win when playing Rainbow Ryan 2 is all relative to the amount you pay to spin the reels. As mentioned, there are four jackpots, and each one has a value to them.

• Minor = 40x
• Major = 100x
• Maxi = 2,000x

The higher the cost you spin at, the greater the potential return. With $10 being the highest you can bet, this makes the jackpot of Rainbow Ryan 2 $20,000. This isn’t great compared to other games. However, the game states that it comes with a $200,000 jackpot. This isn’t the exact case. This is a win cap on the overall game. But the fact of the matter is that the jackpot is $20,000 max. 

The RTP of Rainbow Ryan 2 comes in at 94%, which is pretty poor since the first Rainbow Ryan was 96.20%. The volatility setting is also higher than the original, going from medium volatility to high volatility. This is a bad sign for players who have a limited budget to play with. 

Rainbow Ryan 2 is a game that has all the right features, but there’s something about it that doesn’t rouse me to want to play it again. Perhaps Yggdrasil left the game too long because it may have felt better if this had been released closer to the original. As it is, it doesn’t particularly offer anything new. It’s a typical Yggdrasil casino game.
