There are bingo lovers and enthusiasts everywhere. Who doesn’t like a game of bingo, especially if it is raising funds for something worthwhile?

We have written extensively on the demise of bingo halls in the UK and now another is set to go under the hammer. Don’t worry; if you have a cool £2.5m or more, you can buy it and save it.

Fire Damage Ended the Life of a Once-Thriving Business

The Savoy Cinema in Spalding, Lincolnshire, was one of the area's largest back in 1937 when it opened. No doubt many a blockbuster has been enjoyed there by many thousands of people over the years. Having changed to a bingo hall in the 1970s, it echoed to the sound of the callers and delighted shouts of ‘House!’

In 2021 the 15,000 sq. ft. building was damaged by fire and remained empty since. Now it is up for auction via SDL Property Auctions and Eddisons Peterborough with a guide price of £250,000 to £275,000.

Bingo Halls Saved from Wrecking Balls

As we have reported previously, fortunately some of the former halls are being saved. The building could be put back into use in many ways, with the council having expressed support for mixed-use commercial and residential. It is ideally situated close to the town centre in Spalding, and it is within a conservation area.

Lincolnshire World reported that Andrew Parker, auctioneer and partner at SDL Property Auctions, said: “This was once a splendid building that was a real asset to the town of Spalding, and it has been disused and unloved for over three years since the fire.

"It would be great to see an imaginative mixed-use scheme bring the site back to life, perhaps retaining the original 1930s art-deco facade. Needless to say, the council’s support for a redevelopment scheme makes this a fantastic investment opportunity.”

He told the news outlet: “Spalding has so much going for it, with its historic town centre, picturesque river views and surrounding fenland countryside. It is also just 20 minutes by train from Peterborough and an hour and a half from London.”

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
