The North Las Vegas Police Department (NLVPD) arrested 19-year-old Aerion Warmsley on Saturday in connection with a Thursday morning killing at the Aliante Casino and Hotel.
Osborne, 23, was found dead early Thursday after being shot on the Aliante casino floor, according to police.
Osborne was the adopted son of former Nevada state senator Pat Spearman, who had also run unsuccessfully for mayor of North Las Vegas in 2022. In a statement, Spearman family attorney Ozzie Fumo called the death “an unimaginable loss for the senator and their family.”
“At this moment, the family kindly requests that their privacy be respected so that they can mourn in peace,” the statement read. “They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and condolences from friends, colleagues and the community.”
Spearman adopted Osborne when he was a teenager. In October 2022, Osborne was arrested after police said he shot his cousin at Spearman’s home. Osborne would plead guilty to felony counts of battery with use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm and carrying a concealed firearm or dangerous weapon, according to court records.
According to the NLVPD, the department first received reports of a shooting at Aliante around 4:30 am on Thursday, March 27. The NLVPD had already received a complaint about Warmsley on March 26 for an unrelated domestic disturbance, during which he allegedly sent a woman a text message stating “do you want to die?” before driving to her home. Warmsley left that home before police could question him about the incident.
The investigation indicated that two Black men in dark clothing had fled the scene of the shooting in a Mercedes that matched the description of Warmsley’s vehicle from the alleged domestic incident. That same Mercedes was later involved in a crash near the Las Vegas Strip, after which Warmsley and the other man fled on foot.
From there, the men allegedly approached a woman and stole her gray Mercedes SUV at gunpoint. The second man left the SUV before a police pursuit began. That pursuit, which included the use of a helicopter by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), ended with police stopping Warmsley on Boulder Highway. At least two people were injured during the chase, according to police, including one who was hospitalized in critical condition.
NLVPD booked Warmsley at the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center, charging him with open murder with a deadly weapon and robbery with a deadly weapon. Police also allege that Warmsley was involved with several other dangerous crimes in multiple jurisdictions, including reckless driving, more vehicle thefts, and high-speed pursuits. Officials say that more charges from the LVMPD are likely in the case.
According to NLVPD officials, there are no outstanding suspects. An NLVPD spokesman said the second man who fled with Warmsley has not been arrested.
