A Full Guide to Ontario’s Most and Least Lucky Casinos

It’s a question as old as time: are some casinos luckier than others? Well, at Casinos.com, we’re here to answer all of your burning questions about gambling, so this was the perfect challenge for us.

There are a few ways that we could have determined which casino destination is the luckiest (for example, by playing at each of them), but we decided to use Tripadvisor to help us figure it out.

We looked for mentions of certain keywords like “luck,” “won,” and “jackpot,” and based on that, we gave each Ontario casino a rating on our scale. And the results were something to behold!

Before we get into it, here’s a list of the casinos we looked at:

  • Niagara Fallsviews Casino
  • Caesars Windsor
  • Casino Niagara Falls
  • Casino Rama
  • Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands
  • Great Blue Heron
  • Gateway Casinos Sault Ste. Marie
  • Rideau Carleton Raceway & Casino
  • Great Canadian Casino Resort
  • Pickering Casino Resort

The results are in, and the winner is clear: the luckiest casino in all of Ontario is Great Canadian Casino Resort, which got a huge score of 40%! So, what makes this Toronto casino so lucky? According to the reviews, it definitely seems to have improved over the past several years.

One person said, “On my last play, I put my last brown into the Dancing Drums machine, bet $1.76, and on the second hit, I got the jackpot, the grand bonus. It paid over $12k. On our way out, another Jackpot winner was announced; they won $45k”. Now, that’s our type of place!

Pickering Casino Resort came second on the list with a pretty good rating of 33.33%. This one had 23 keyword mentions out of 69 reviews, with the most common being “won” and “jackpot.”

Pickering casino promises an authentic Vegas-style experience, without even having to leave Ontario, so we’d imagine there would at least be a couple of jackpot wins here and there! There are more than 2,200 slots and over 90 table games, so there are plenty of chances to win.

“Got some jackpots in the ten-cent machine, moved to high limit,” said one person. Not sure if we’d personally recommend doing that, but if it floats your boat, why not.

In third place, Rideau Carleton Raceway & Casino wasn’t too far behind, with a rating of 33.07%. “Won” came up an impressive 22 times, and “winning” was mentioned 18 times. From slots to table games like baccarat and craps, there’s no shortage of choice.

Which Casino in Ontario is the Luckiest

According to one review, “Maybe it's because it's how I spend time with family members, but I always love coming here. I've won a ton of jackpots”. A ton of jackpots? Where are we going wrong?

But if you’re looking for a big win, there are a couple of places you might want to avoid too.

Caesars Windsor had over 1,600 reviews, but only 193 of them called out any of our keywords, resulting in a rating of 11.96%. Well, according to one review, “I very rarely have a winning evening at the Caesars Casino in Windsor. I always look forward to a night at the casino and go with an open mind. But after a while with no wins, I end up leaving early.” That just sounds a little sad, if we’re being honest.

Gateway Casinos Sault Ste. Marie did slightly better, with a rating of 19.05%, but still came second to last on our list. Only three people used the word “luck” here, and there were absolutely no mentions of any jackpot wins.

“The payouts at this casino are very small, literally pennies,” said one review, while another said, “Stayed an hour. Didn't hear any winners.” Very, very bleak stuff all round.

Casino Rama was close to Gateway, with 19.20% on the scale and 144 keyword mentions. Although that’s still a pretty respectable rating, some of the reviews weren’t exactly favorable. One that stood out said, “The gaming floor is somewhat busy; I did not see/hear any slot winning at all. We stayed for approximately 2 1/2 hours. Unfortunately, the family voted to never go again.” Well, that settles it then.
