Seven-Month Caesars Windsor Extension for Caesars Entertainment Incorporated

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has announced the local subsidiary of American casino giant Caesars Entertainment Incorporated is to continue operating Caesars Windsor until at least March of 2026.

Opened in May of 1994, the 758-room Caesars Windsor is situated along the banks of the Detroit River and features a 100,000 sq ft casino hosting a selection of approximately 2,500 slots as well as over 75 gaming tables with baccarat, poker, blackjack, pai gow, and roulette entertainment.

The enterprise also has a sportsbook, four bars, six restaurants, and a 5,000-seat concert hall in addition to a pool, a fitness room, a self-service business center, and 110,000 sq ft of meeting and conference space.

Original Operator

OLG revealed the Caesars Entertainment Windsor Limited arm of Reno-headquartered Caesars Entertainment Incorporated has run the twin-tower Caesars Windsor ever since the prominent venue opened its doors with Ontario’s land-based casino some 30 years ago.

However, the regulator explained this operating license had been set to expire in August of 2025 as it is currently involved in a competitive procurement process to determine who is to be responsible for the well-known property over the course of the ensuing decades.

This program is scheduled to name an ultimate winner early next year with Caesars Entertainment Incorporated, known to be facing stiff opposition from rivals including Bally’s Corporation and Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment.

Larger Latitude

OLG declared the new seven-month extension for Caesars Entertainment Windsor Limited has been negotiated ‘under the same terms and conditions’ in order to ‘help ensure the long-term competitiveness’ of Caesars Windsor. The regulator additionally asserted the extra time will allow it to better conduct the process of selecting ‘a highly-qualified service provider to handle day-to-day operations’ at Ontario’s second largest gambling-friendly property.

“The integrity of the procurement process is of the utmost importance to OLG," read a statement from OLG.

“Public procurements are complex and involve information of a commercially sensitive nature. As a result, procurement details and the names of pre-qualified proponents will not be released by OLG while the process is ongoing.”

Augmented Agreement

This move comes after OLG and Caesars Entertainment Windsor Limited inked a deal in August of 2022 to give the pair the option of extending their long-running relationship by up to a further year to August of 2026.

The regulator stated this latitude will assist Caesars Windsor in being able to ‘continue generating economic benefits for the local community and for Ontario’, which has amounted to well beyond $63 million over the course of the past three decades.
