The Luckiest Casinos in British Columbia

The history of gambling in the province of British Columbia hasn’t been quite as long as in some other provinces, but it’s safe to say that ever since legal lotteries were introduced in the 1970s, the pastime has been gaining popularity. 

In 1987, the first casino opened in the province (Nanaimo Casino), and ever since then, legal gambling destinations have been popping up all over BC. Now, British Columbia is home to four First Nations casinos, 44 commercial casino destinations, and two racinos. You can enjoy gambling all across the province, from the scenic mountainous town of Kamloops, to the concrete jungle of Vancouver.

With online gambling having been regulated in BC since way back in 2004, gambling is now even more accessible to everyone across the province. But you have to admit, online casinos can’t touch the thrill of walking into a real casino and watching the machines light up when you land yourself a big win. 

Whenever you visit a casino, you should be doing so to enjoy the gaming experience, and maybe grab a bite to eat to check out whatever entertainment is on offer. But of course, landing a win is always a plus. We wanted to find out which casinos in BC are the luckiest, so we took a bit of a deep dive into Tripadvisor reviews, and had a look at which casinos had the most reviews mentioning keywords like “lucky”, “won”, and “jackpot”. These are the casinos we assessed:

If you want to stand the best possible chance of walking away with a win, the place to visit is Chances Maple Ridge, which got a rating of 51.92% on our Luck Scale. This casino is a destination for slots, bingo, horse racing, and dining, plus live music every Saturday night. Eight reviews used the word “lucky”, while another five called out “won”, so we wanted to check some of them out. 

“Spent a little time in the casino, played on the older machines, got lucky on my last $5, won $170 pot! Went to another machine and won another $60” - we like the sound of that! 

Second on the list, we have Treasure Cove Casino and Bingo, with a rating of 40.32%, and a total of 25 mentions of our keywords, across 62 reviews. 10 of the reviews used the word “won”, which sounds promising to us. One person traveling from Idaho to Alaska (quite the drive) said “Just driving through and won over a Thousand dollars!”.

Rounding out the top three, Elements Casino Surrey received 38.46%. This casino boasts a wide selection of slots and table games, as well as electronic tables, and eight figure jackpots. There’s also a horse racing track, plus poker and bingo. While one review lamented their own lack of winnings, they also said “a family member did come here the week before and won over $9000 with a .68 cent bet!” - we’re not sure if we can trust this review, or if the “family member” was just telling tall tales. 

But with the good must always come the bad, and there were a few BC casinos that had downright terrible luck ratings. Chances Casino-Kamloops got 8.82% on our scale. While this casino purports to have “state of the art gaming” and “nightlife”, the winnings were in short supply - not one review used the word “lucky” or “winning”. It seems that most people called out the big food portions in the restaurant, which is a form of luck, we suppose. 

Not doing much better was Cascades Casino, also in Kamloops (do we see a pattern developing?), with 9.52%. Out of 168 reviews, there were a measly three mentions of the word “lucky”, and as one very definitive review stated, “You cannot win here at all”. 

The buffet was also described multiple times as being “inconsistent”, so you might want to give this particular casino a miss if you’re visiting Kamloops.

Methodology

Casinos.com utilized Tripadvisor reviews to do an in-depth analysis of phrases associated with luck to determine the luckiest casino in British Columbia. We calculated the percentage of mentions in the total Tripadvisor reviews.
