Gambling has been a popular activity in Ontario for over 100 years now. Whether you play in person or at the best Ontario online casinos, the goal has always been the same: to take home a win.
While later generations of European settlers introduced new gambling options, even the First Nations people enjoyed playing traditional games.
When it comes to modern forms of gambling, as far back as 1911, punters were able to bet on horse racing, and in 1975, the provincial lottery was legalized. It wasn’t long before the first land-based casino opened in Windsor in 1994, and nowadays you can even enjoy thousands of the best slot sites 24/7, thanks to the rise of Canadian online casinos.
Over 100,000 people work for casinos and related industries in the province, and the gambling sector generated more than $18 billion in wagers in the 2023–2024 fiscal year. Casinos in Ontario don’t only offer an assortment of gambling options, but also entertainment, luxury accommodation, and, of course, stylish dining.
While all of the casinos in Ontario offer a fun experience and a great day out, there are a few where you’re likely to get luckier than at others. Similar to the best online casino payouts in Canada, our Casinos.com team analyzed thousands of Tripadvisor reviews to find out which casinos in the province give you the best possible chance of a win.
These are the Ontario casinos we evaluated:
Topping our list was the Gateway Casino London, with a huge 48.33% on our Casinos.com Luck Scale. This one only had 60 reviews, but out of those, an impressive 9 people used the word "won.” The casino has over 750 slot games, plus all your favorite table games, so there are plenty of chances to get lucky.
As one review said, “I am going back, I won some money and had a great day. There are many different types of machines and the rest of the place has many new features." Plain and simple, and sounds good to us.
Next up, Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto scored 40.88%, with a total of 74 keyword mentions out of 181 reviews. This one actually has the largest game variety of any casino in Canada, so it’s definitely worth the trip. There’s even a theater and a luxury hotel attached.
“My last play, I put my last brown into the Dancing Drums machine, bet $1.76, and on my second hit, I got the jackpot and the grand bonus. It paid over $12k. On our way out, another Jackpot winner was announced; they won $45k," said one lucky gambler. Yes, please!
Finally, landing at number three on our list was Brantford Charity Casino, with a rating of 36.71%. This casino has been around since 1999, and it boasts a selection of 500+ slot games, as well as roulette, blackjack, and poker. “The last time I went, I won. That is always a bonus," said one reviewer. It’s hard to argue with that.
With the unhappy honor of being at the very bottom of our list, Caesars Windsor Casino received just 11.99% on the scale. Just one person referred to "success,” and there were only three mentions of "handpay.” “All they want is your money and the payback on winnings is terrible. To win something, there is like a needle in a haystack."
Okay, that doesn’t sound great, but I’m going to have to argue with the other reviewer, who said they didn’t win because they had less money after converting their USD to CAD.
Second from the bottom was Starlight Casino Point Edward, with 15.82% and 25 keyword mentions.
“Personally, I've NOT EVER won more than $225, and that amount paid out to me has been won about twice in the past three years. It's far more the case for me/us to win $30 here, $50 there, and infrequently a "Big Win" of around $80," said one reviewer.
Casinos.com utilized Tripadvisor reviews to do an in-depth analysis of phrases associated with luck to determine the luckiest casino in Ontario. We calculated the percentage of mentions in the total number of Tripadvisor reviews.
Keywords tracked: Lucky, Luck, Won, Winning, Success, Jackpot, Hand Pay, Winner, Bonus, Profit
