The Most Romantic Casinos in Canada

There are a whole lot of unique destinations for a wedding in Canada—nestled in the Rocky Mountains near Vancouver or way up north where you might glimpse the Northern Lights are just two ideas that immediately spring to mind. But believe it or not, some of Canada’s casinos are pretty romantic too. And whether you’re in the market for a wedding venue, a honeymoon destination, or simply somewhere to propose, you might want to add these to your list.

It should come as no surprise that Canada has romantic casinos, considering there are almost 90 of them, dotted all over the country. Some might not be quite suitable for a getaway with your loved one (there are definitely some that are more geared towards a boys’ holiday or a girls’ trip), but a few of them do serve the purpose. 

To solve the pressing mystery of which Canadian casino is the most romantic, our Casinos.com team headed over to Tripadvisor to see what real people were saying. We decided to base our conclusion on four- and five-star reviews, and we looked for mentions of keywords like "proposed," "married," "engaged," or “wedding” to see exactly where the most romance was taking place.

If you simply can’t wait to hear which casino was the most romantic of all, we’ll get right to it. The answer is Grey Eagle Resort and Casino, which scored 4.30% on the scale. Okay, maybe not the highest rating, especially when compared with some of the casino hotels in Las Vegas, but it’s in Calgary, and while the province has a lot going for it, I’ve genuinely never heard anyone compare it to Vegas. 

The most common keyword that came up here was "wedding," but there were also mentions of "engaged." 

One reviewer said, “The Grey Eagle management and staff ensured that we would be provided with an experience that would not only ensure our return but provided us with a very positive experience of a special memory of our wedding anniversary." 

Sounds great to us!

Second on our list, we have Cascades Casino, which received 3.75%. Cascades, located in Langley, BC, has numerous signature dining options as well as a wide range of games, including slots, bingo, poker, and other table games. Sounds quite promising, right? 

There were 160 four- and five-star reviews here, with the word “wedding” called out five times. “Restaurant food quality is OK! Service is good though, nice to have a couple of poker games with my friends before my wedding!” Poker before marriage? Yes, please. 

Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto came in at number three, with 3.03%. As Canada’s newest and largest destination casino, we expect that a whole lot more people will be looking at it as a wedding or honeymoon venue in the near future. 

With so many casinos on the list, we already knew they couldn’t all be worthy of a romantic getaway, so we can’t say we were too surprised to see that some weren’t rated particularly highly. In fact, a whopping 12 casinos are tied right at the bottom of the pack—with absolutely no mentions of any of our keywords. Oh well, at least now you know exactly where you shouldn’t go if you want to propose, right?

Rather than boring you with the details of why each and every one of these scored so low on the Romance Scale, we’ll just give you a few highlights. 

Starlight Casino in Point Edward actually got some really good reviews, so we’re not sure why people didn’t find it to be a romantic destination. 

According to one reviewer, “The Match restaurant is beautiful and the river views are breathtaking! Lots of seating, a Caribbean-style bar outside on the patio with lounge sofas, firepits, and an outdoor TV. The food and service have been awesome! I love the atmosphere.” 

The reviews of Playtime Casino were a little more scathing, although there were some nice ones about the buffet and general upkeep of the resort. 

"Clean. Makes sense as there weren't many people there," but maybe that would actually be the perfect place for a proposal? That’s on you.

Casinos.com utilized Tripadvisor reviews to do an in-depth analysis of phrases associated with romance to determine the most romantic casino in Canada. We calculated the percentage of mentions in the total Tripadvisor reviews.
