BetMGM Adds Live Table Games in West Virginia Online Casino Market

BetMGM has launched live tables – including the state’s first private blackjack table – on its BetMGM casino platform in West Virginia. The live action expands the operator’s gaming options; making it one of the best West Virginia online casinos.

In a partnership with Evolution technology, the new table offerings include many favorite real money online casino games. In addition to a private BetMGM blackjack table, Roulette, Auto Roulette, Lightning Roulette, Infinite Blackjack, Speed Baccarat, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, and Three Card Poker games are also available.

All of these games are streamed live from Evolution's studio in Pennsylvania.

“BetMGM is thrilled to make our market leading live dealer experience available to players in West Virginia,” Oliver Bartlett, director of gaming for BetMGM, said in a news release. “Our partnership with Evolution is an important part of our player-first strategy, helping us remain the most dominant live gaming operator in the U.S.”

Evolution Grows U.S. Footprint

Evolution opened its first U.S. live casino studio, in the New Jersey online casino market, in August 2018, and followed with studios in Pennsylvania, Michigan and soon to launch in Connecticut, the company said in the release.

West Virginia becomes the fourth U.S. state where Evolution operates Live Casino. The company has been operating its slots portfolio in this market since September 2020.

“We are sure online players will absolutely love what they see and the experience of playing live at the tables, just as they would in a real land-based casino, ” said Jeff Millar, commercial director North America at Evolution. Players on the platform bet in real time, with real dealers and alongside fellow online players.

iGaming online casino apps like BetMGM are available in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut, West Virginia and Delaware, while more than 30 states and the District of Columbia offer some form of sports wagering, either retail, online or both.

Sports Gambling vs. iGaming

In May, a guest panel at the iGaming NEXT New York conference discussed the future outlook for online sports gambling against iGaming.

During the conference, Dr. Laila Mintas, founder of Dr. Mintas Consulting, said, “If we consider, sports betting has been legalized in the U.S. four years ago. So it's a pretty new and young industry and many of the companies in the U.S. that came into the U.S. or were actually founded and created here, are almost acting like startups. It's a very high growth that they're projecting. Many of them are very far away from being profitable. And the expense is immense when it comes to user acquisition.”

“iGaming is the long-term profit center for all of these companies,” Chad Beynon, managing director at Macquarie Securities, said during the conference when comparing online gaming to sports wagering. “What we're seeing right now is the average iGaming user is spending about $300 per month. Those are numbers that have come from Rush Street Interactive and Golden Nugget, some of the leaders. Sports betting is about $100 per month.”

But the new industry has some growing pains to work through.

“Licensing, it's a big issue,” Rob Heller, president & CEO of Spectrum Gaming Capital, said at the conference. “I've been dealing with companies for decades who want to get into this space. Once they get into the licensing element – and what impact that's going to have on their company – they say, it's not worth it."
