Nolimit City developed its first slot game way back in 2015, and since then have gone on to establish itself as a leading player in the market for online casino games and now with over 70 games in their library, alongside exclusive partnerships at some of the web's top online casinos.
With the company regularly entering into new markets, most recently Bulgaria and also Ontario through Evolution's One Stop Shop (OSS) platform, we wanted to find out a little bit more about them, their background, journey and innovations they have brought to the casino game world from their COO, Malcolm Mizzi.
Nolimit City COO and Commercial Director Malcolm Mizzi
Q - Tell us about Nolimit City - what's the background behind the company?
A - Nolimit City is a relatively new(ish) company. Our first game was released in 2015 and we’ve been growing at quite a rapid pace ever since. We’re well-known these days for our provocative themes, volatile titles, and xMechanics. We now have four offices worldwide, in Sweden, Malta, India, and most recently Romania!
We’re not a huge studio, but we’re quickly and steadily growing! We’re on track to hire our 100th employee soon, which will be quite a huge milestone, considering we were just over half that just a few years ago. Everything we produce is made in-house and most of us have been with Nolimit for years and years - including me!
Q - What's the Nolimit City mission statement for operators and players?
A - Put in a few words, We strive to be different and stand out - and provide something unique to the player. With that being said, we don’t just think outside the box for the sake of it, we’re always experimenting with features and concepts to unlock that extra bit of value which can only be discovered through constant experimentation. This doesn’t work 100% of the time, but when it does, it's well worth the times it didn’t!
Q - Nolimit City will be celebrating 10 years - is anything planned?
A - On paper, Nolimit City was established in late 2011, however, it was mainly an idea at that stage and started to kick-drive things in motion by 2014. I don't know if we can count those first couple of years. Our first slot was published in 2015, so perhaps we’ll celebrate then!
Q - What has the journey been like for Nolimit City since its inception?
A - Our early games are barely recognizable to anything we’d put out these days ( see Wixx or Casino Win Spin). We started out with ‘softer’ themed slots, but we soon realized we needed to make ourselves stand out from the crowd. We started experimenting with bolder, edgier themes - whilst also taking risks and developing unique mechanics… The same ones players know and love even to this day!
We saw a massive boom in popularity over 2020 and 2021 with some of our games going ‘viral’, such as Punk Rocker and Tombstone to begin with, which eventually paved the way to our mega hits San Quentin, Mental, and Fire in the Hole really making waves through the industry with their shocking volatility and huge potential.
Looking ahead, we plan to continue mixing things up some more as we’ve been doing since the start and I can’t wait to see what comes out of it!
Q - You partnered up with some huge brands in 2022/2023 so far, anything in the pipeline for the rest of the year and beyond in your sights?
A - Commercially, 2022 was a fantastic year - culminating with our acquisition by Evolution in the second half of the year. The acquisition has opened many doors for us, and we’re pumped up to take full advantage of that. We’re aiming to enter quite a few markets over the coming quarters - so stay tuned for any updates and announcements!
Q - What elements do you owe the success of Nolimit City to?
A - It’s all about the people! We have a fantastic team full of talented individuals who when put together in the right environment, thrive.
With that in mind, I also think it’s to do with the fact that we indulge in and entertain such a wide variety of ideas and concepts. This can be seen throughout our catalogue of games. It’s super rare for two games to be similar, let alone be the same. Even when games are thematically similar, we’re sure to flip the mechanics upside-down and create a whole different experience for the player.
Another element that has propelled our success would be the massive potential of most of our most popular games. We’ve carved out our own niche in the industry - thus becoming well known for our games to have huge potentials, which are actually achievable despite extreme volatility.
Above all though, working in an environment where ideas are allowed to incubate leads to the innovation and uniqueness that Nolimit is all about!
Q - Innovation is a huge part of the industry - what are some innovations Nolimit City is proud of or looking forward to?
A - I think Nolimit City is genuinely innovative - not just in the ‘buzzword’ sense of the word. Over the years we’ve taken what was considered to be established and unchangeable and flipped it on its head.
We were the first company to really focus on creating slots with Bold / Edgy themes, and we have found our success by being different - standing out from the crowd. The same goes for our unique mechanics and crazy volatility. We’re proud of the fact that we’re not afraid to go where others wouldn’t want to be anywhere near.
We’re diversifying our slots this year. Mixing things up a little but still keeping the same mentality - staying true to what made us successful in the first place. Follow us on our socials to stay in the loop on our amazing journey which is just getting started.
