CEO Of Malta Gaming Authority Looks to Position Malta as Premier Business Hub

There were hundreds of companies at the ICE Barcelona 2025 event, from slot manufacturers to online casinos and poker players there was plenty to see and do.  

One of the highlights of any major event like this is the presence of some of the industry’s leading figures at the event. CEOs of companies are thrust in front of the ICE event cameras where some do better than others but what always comes across is their in-depth knowledge from vast experience of roles during their careers.   

Always delivering gold nuggets of information is Charles Mizzi, the CEO of the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA). 

Mizzi was cornered for an interview during the event and he began by saying that the MGA distinguishes itself from other regulatory bodies through its open-door policy and regular dialogue with industry stakeholders.

Mizzi said: “This engagement allows the regulatory frameworks to be shaped based on the actual needs and challenges faced by the operators.”

Collaboration Important for MGA 

One of the key elements of success for the MGA is collaboration. Mizzi touched on this saying that the MGA actively collaborates with the gaming industry, organizing consultation processes and meetings to gather feedback before implementing changes or introducing new policies. 

Mizzi says that this collaborative approach is well-received by industry players. 

With the onslaught of blockchain and crypto currencies within the gambling industry and the recent support shown by the incoming President Donald Trump the MGA has been proactive in addressing emerging technologies. 

Mizzi conceded that we must recognise their significance in the gaming sector. He said that the MGA have developed a framework to ensure that they are ahead of the market and can effectively handle these innovations. 

Importance of ESG is Clear  

With investors and consumers becoming more aware and demanding of Environmental, Social, and Governance the MGA has introduced an ESG code, which is optional for operators but aims to prepare them for future regulatory requirements. 

Mizzi said, “This initiative is part of the MGA’s commitment to promoting sustainability within the gaming sector.” 

Beautiful Malta is home to numerous casino industry companies. It is an attractive location for gaming companies due to its established ecosystem, which includes the presence of major players, a supportive regulatory environment, and essential infrastructure like education and healthcare. 

According to Mizzi, this combination helps retain talent and drive industry growth. 

Positioning Malta as Premier Business Hub  

The MGA must look ahead to sustain the gaming industry, improve operational efficiency, and maintain open communication with stakeholders.

Charles Mizzi said that their goal is to “continue positioning Malta as a premier hub for gaming companies, ensuring the industry contributes positively to the local economy.”
