Tequila Titans By State

To figure out the most popular tequila brands, Casinos.com  used Google Trends and The Spirits Business magazine’s list of biggest-selling tequila brands. We’ve analyzed which brands people were searching for the most in each state over the past 90 days.

These are the tequilas people were searching for the most, but does that mean they are the best? Both lists show that many people like Jose Cuervo and Don Julio tequila the most, making them popular choices overall. Patron is also well-liked in multiple states, according to both lists.

However, the website's rankings put Casamigos in fourth place and have 1800 Tequila as the fifth top brand, which is different from what people searched for.

Some trends observed from our analysis are as follows:

  • Jose Cuervo is very popular in many states across the South, Midwest, Southwest, and West, making it the most dominant tequila brand in the country.
  • Casamigos is the main tequila brand of choice in the Northeast, including New York, Delaware, and the District of Columbia.
  • Don Julio is tied with Casamigos and is popular in an equal amount of states, mostly in the Midwest, like Iowa, Minnesota, and Missouri.
  • Patron is favored in eight states, particularly in the Northeast and the West, such as Connecticut, New Jersey, and Washington.

How well do you know tequila?

Tequila is made from the blue agave plant , and its production involves several steps. The agave plants take around 8-10 years to mature before they can be harvested. Mexico is the only country that can legally produce tequila under the appellation of origin designation, which means that it must be made from blue agave and be produced in specific regions of the country. National Tequila Day was officially recognized by the Mexican government in 2018.

Tequila is a versatile spirit that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. Celebrate this weekend with some classic cocktails like margaritas and palomas. Or just savor the taste as a shot with a lick of salt and a squeeze of lime. Host a tequila tasting party with friends, and for the drink experts do a blind taste so your guests can explore different brands and aging techniques. Engage your senses by creating a festive ambiance, adorned with Mexican-inspired decor and lively music.

Our top suggestion is to be adventurous and try new concoctions that infuse tequila's vibrant personality into familiar favorites. Food is a great carrier for tequila's flavors. Try some tequila-infused salsa, spicy tequila chicken wings, or tequila-lime shrimp skewers. No matter how you celebrate, toast to the history and culture of this special spirit that brings people together.
