Betting odds say Meghan Markle’s first Instagram follows may favor celebrities over royals. (Image: Sipa US / Alamy)
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, returned to Instagram in January, and she has been posting a lot on her new account, @meghan.
The move has sparked a lot of buzz, even within the online casino community, where people are placing wagers on which celebrity or Royal Meghan might follow next. At the time of writing, Meghan has amassed well over two million followers.
Meghan is only following the official account of her company, As Ever, a rebrand of her former lifestyle organisation, America Riviera Orchard. Her only post to date features a picture of honey being poured over a croissant—a hint that she could be selling her own honey soon—and some of Meghan's own jam, which she previously gifted to 50 of her pals, is on a table.
The caption reads, "You’re warmly invited: As ever, coming Spring 2025."
As Ever's Instagram account has already amassed more than 661,000 followers, many eyes will remain on Meghan's own account to see which of her celebrity friends she will follow or whether she becomes online pals with any of the Royals.
Prince Harry and his wife, Duchess Meghan, stepped down as senior royals in January 2020 and moved to the US shortly afterwards, and there has been plenty of controversy between the couple and the Royal Family since.

The pair took part in a now-infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, during which Meghan alleged Harry's sister-in-law, Duchess Catherine, who is married to Harry's brother Prince William, had made her "cry" over a flower girl dress ahead of her nuptials.
Meghan also alleged in the interview that during her time in the Royal Family there were "concerns and conversations" about "how dark" her then-unborn son Archie's "skin might be when he's born."
She didn't mention who had allegedly made the remarks, but it sparked a Palace witch hunt on social media and the names in the race row were apparently revealed in a Dutch version of the book Endgame, written by Meghan's so-called "mouthpiece" Omid Scobie.

The royal reporter and author insisted he had "never submitted a book that had those names in it," and Sussex insiders have said the couple had nothing to do with the book.
Harry also criticised his family in his 2023 memoir, Spare, and in a bombshell Netflix documentary series.
Spare featured several allegations about the Royal Family, including one claim that he and his brother William once brawled over Harry's marriage to Meghan.
Prince Harry would be the obvious favorite, but as there are only fan-led accounts on his behalf, he has not been included in the odds. Will Meghan follow any other Royals?
Harry and Meghan have previously been close with Princess Eugenie, and she appears to be the most obvious of the other Royals for the former Suits actress to drop a follow.
Eugenie is 2/1, second favourite, followed by her mother Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York (3/1), whose potential roles in popular UK shows are being heavily speculated, and sister Princess Beatrice (4/1).
However, with no love lost between William and Harry in recent years it looks highly unlikely Meghan will continue this new chapter in her life by following the Prince and Princess of Wales' Instagram account (20/1) or the King and Queen's official account (33/1). But never say never.
While some of the Royal Family may not get the Meghan follow treatment, it's highly likely some of her closest allies might.

Oprah and Meghan have had a strong bond for years, and she also attended Meghan and Harry's wedding in 2018.
The talk show queen is an 8/13 favourite of the celebrities Meghan might follow, and showbiz power couple Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, who are neighbours with the duke and duchess in California, aren't far behind at 4/6.
Meghan has been long-time pals with tennis champion Serena Williams, who follows her friend's new account. They previously met at a Super Bowl party in 2010, and as well as attending Harry and Meghan's wedding, Serena featured on the ex-actress' Archetypes podcast.
She is just 8/11 to be followed by the duchess, and singer Billie Eilish is 10/11. It comes after Meghan name-checked the Bad Guy hitmaker in one of her eight @meghan grid posts so far.
Meghan recently met a 15-year-old girl whose house burned down in the Los Angeles wildfires, and the teenager was devastated about losing her Eilish top in the disaster.
In an act of kindness, Meghan sent a voice note to several celebrity pals to try to get a message to Billie.
The singer responded by sending several T-shirts and signed gifts to Meghan for her to pass on to the teenager.
Meghan posted a video of herself looking through the gifts, which included a Billie Eilish lunchbox, and wrote on Instagram: "Let’s keep supporting those affected by the California wildfires. Thanks to everyone who made this possible but most importantly, thank you to our first responders, who are the community’s real heroes. As ever, Meghan"
Some of Meghan's other pals who could expect a follow include her so-called "jam friends."
The star sent strawberry jam from her American Riviera Orchard brand to the likes of Mindy Kaling (Evens), Kris Jenner (6/4), Chrissy Teigen and John Legend (2/1), and Tracee Ellis Ross (3/1), among others.
The Duke and Duchess are also said to have dined with Cameron Diaz (6/1) and Gwyneth Paltrow (8/1) in recent years, and they count A-lister John Travolta (5/1) as a close pal.
Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick (4/1), who is also known as Channel 4's "Supervet," might seem like an unlikely candidate for a follow, but he attended Harry and Meghan's 2018 wedding after he helped Meghan with her rescue dog Guy.
And he is one of the few to have been mentioned in one of her eight grid posts.
Meghan thanked Noel in a January 7th Instagram post about Guy, following the pooch's passing.
Part of the post read, "He [Guy] endured a terrible accident shortly before I moved to the UK which had him undergoing surgeries for several months and unable to leave the clinic. Doctors said he would never walk again, but Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick said he could do it. H and I would drive late at night, after hours, to see Guy as he recovered in Surrey for months on end.
"I will always be grateful to Noel and his team, the team at Queen West Animal Hospital in TO, our vets now, and my friends and community: Thank you for loving him so. (sic)"
What's more, some of Harry's pals could even be on the receiving end of an Instagram follow from the duchess, including Sir Elton John (13/8) and James Corden (5/2).
However, TV presenter Piers Morgan, who previously slated Meghan on Good Morning Britain over her infamous Oprah interview—resulting in him quitting GMB—is a 100/1 outsider.
