It has been a very successful conference for the Gambling European Forum (GREF), held in Malta over the last few days. The title of this year’s conference was "Shaping the Future of Gambling Regulation," including discussions on prominent casino destinations.
Over 30 gambling regulators from across Europe convened to engage in insightful discussions and exchange views on regulatory practices.
The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin, Chairwoman of GREF and Charles Mizzi, CEO of Malta Gaming Authority, setting the tone for two days of fruitful interactions.
Falque-Pierrotin highlighted, “GREF needs to become more visible and effective”.
There was a dynamic lineup of conferences and panels covering a spectrum of crucial topics including enforcement strategies, responsible gambling initiatives, and anti-money laundering efforts.
Day two of the conference began with an enlightening presentation by two esteemed French researchers, Marie Redon and Boris Ledeay, from Sorbonne Paris Nord University.
The duo delved into the fascinating field of the geography of gambling, shedding light on how different states have shaped their territorial organisation to accommodate and regulate various forms of gambling.
Their fresh perspective has provided insights for gambling regulators, offering a deeper understanding of the intricate dynamics at play in the gambling industry.
For the first time, GREF welcomed regulators from other continents to the event, adding a global perspective to discussions.
At the close of this year’s conference, there was acknowledgement for the individual and collective efforts that have been made to strengthen GREF’s regulatory frameworks across Europe.
Posting on LinkedIn, GREF said that cooperation has proven essential in navigating the evolving landscape of the gambling industry, which is rapidly expanding internationally.
The organisation concluded by saying: “Going forward, we will continue to work to foster cooperation among our members and to cultivate a culture of openness that extends globally, while strengthening our visibility on the international stage."
“Thank you to the Malta Gaming Authority for orchestrating this event, and to our esteemed guests and speakers for making it a vibrant and enriching experience.”
Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
