Investors and online casino operators are closely monitoring recent developments in the UAE, which has taken a significant step by granting its first gaming vendor license to an international slot and online technology company, Aristocrat.
The move is a crucial milestone for the global gaming technology industry, as the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) now oversees commercial gaming activities in the UAE.
This landmark decision opens the possibility for a new regulated commercial gaming market in the region.
Hector Fernandez, CEO of Aristocrat Gaming, said “We are honoured to be the first large international technology provider awarded a gaming-related vendor license to serve the UAE market.
"At Aristocrat, our vision is to deliver the best seat in the house wherever and whenever the world plays. We look forward to providing premium content for players in the UAE while simultaneously promoting responsible gameplay.”
This license allows Aristocrat to supply its land-based electronic gaming machines and online gaming solutions to licensed commercial operators in the UAE.
The GCGRA's website, previously password-protected, has now become a resource that outlines the future of gaming in the UAE, including the issuance of casino licenses and plans for slots and poker tables.
Notably, the application process for gaming licenses allows applicants to select from all seven emirates, indicating that the scope of gaming could potentially expand beyond Ras Al Khaimah, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai.
Jim Murren, chairman of the GCGRA, highlighted the significance of these developments, stating, “The launch of the UAE Lottery is a pivotal event that not only marks the establishment of a disciplined, world-class regulatory framework for lottery activities but also underscores our commitment to nurturing a secure and enriching commercial gaming environment in the UAE.”
Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
